Default AAE error -9073

I am running Pro Tools 12.7.1 on windows 10. I am using a Dell Inspiron 16GB RAM 1T hard drive, with Intel 7 dual core.
It continues to tell me "can't get audio from the drive(s) fast enough. Your drive may be too show or fragmented, or firewire drive could be having trouble due to the firewire bandwith or CPU load. (AAE -9073)"

This is a brand new computer with plenty of space. Any thing I can do?
I can't playback any tracks without seeing this message.

Really frustrated.

have you tried making your Playback Buffer larger ?? what is it set at now ?? you might also Toggle your Playback buffer size to reset

do you have a lot of audio track playing ?? are you using Disk Cache ??

more info please

Hi John,

I have it set at the default setting now. Buffer - 512 samples, disk cache at normal. I watched a tutorial on YouTube, it suggested that I use a lower setting for tracking, and a higher setting for mixing. I've tried it both ways and I still get the same error. I even tried changing the I/O settings and it's the same error. At the most, I have ten tracks playing simultaneously. Just music tracks, I can't get to the vocals because it keeps stopping.

thanks
Sam

Hey Sam

The 9073 error message is a hard drive issue and comes on when your drive is too slow or filled up to the brim.

How is your hard drive setup? Only one for both OS and recording to?

If this is becomming a serious issue than i would get a secondary hard drive as suggested by Avid and use that for recording only from PT.

Pro Tools NEED its own recording drive especially if you don't have a really fast SSD drive as OS drive so that is a problem and not much can be done except getting a dedicated recording hard drive, preferably a SSD but if money is tight get the best spenner drive you can. Need to be a minimum of 7200rpm and disc cache 64MB and 9ms seek time or better.

The WDC Black 1-3 TB drives are super and many many members here use those with great success as do we.

Plenty of space tells nothing about the performance requred for PT record/playback. You might have a system drive that has "plenty of space" but it is too slow for your session. Please buy a dedicated drive for your PT sessions, as is per manual.

please read JFreak's comments ... ALSO: Normal for Disk Cache means OFF .. choose a value like 256 or 512MB and you will see the Disk Cache Fill up in your System Usage Meter (under the Window Menu)

On Windows especially, this doesn't work well trying to record to the system drive. Part of a correctly configured setup involves a 7200-rpm secondary hard drive specifically for recording and playback.

hi SW, the OP has not said one way or another if he is recording to a separate drive or system drive !! that is speculation .. but as there is a Firewire Notice on that 9073 error !!! (that is in the 1st post) he might have a Firewire Drive in addition to the internal 1TB drive !! not sure if that error specifically knows if there is a Firewire drive ..

lets wait for the OP to reply .. you guys are always helpful with PC issues where it is not my game ..

cheers john

In his original description, he said he has "a 1TB hard drive." Are you a betting man?
