Pro Tools 8 issue with Mbox 2

I have an Mbox 2 Academic version and I ran Pro Tools 7 on Windows-based pc for a little while. I bought a new Macbook pro, installed pro tools 8 and it's update, and when I start Pro Tools 8 with the Mbox connected it says "Unable to locate Digidesign Hardware". The Mbox shows up in my control panel, but in the window that pops up when you click on it, it says "connected to Mbox 2 micro". It definitely is not a micro. If anyone has any advice I would definitely appreciate it because this is frustrating. Thanks.

Since when did osx have a control panel?

Anyways, recommend that you uninstall and then completely reinstall pt 8.

Yeah sorry, System Preferences I meant. A few things I left out while I was typing in frustration earlier. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Pro Tools 8, with and without the update, many times and it's the same thing. I also installed Pro Tools 7 just to see what would happen and it actually opened up and ran. I couldn't get it to work properly but it still was acknowledging that my Mbox was connected.

Look for the pt prefenced cleaner. Sounds like something is fouled up as pt 7 can detect your mbox

Are you update to date, Pro Tools 8.0.3cs2?

Most likely your running Snow Leopard?

Yup. I made sure I updated to 8.0.3cs2 and the latest update of Snow Leopard. It's probably something stupid but I honestly can't figure what is wrong since it worked fine with PT 7. Could it be the software on my Mbox maybe?

I remember hearing that some of the Academic boxes have had issues with there firmware
