Use Make Mix window faders adjust MIDI velocity?
I've devoted a single midi track to each drum in my EX-Drummer to make programming easier. I also assumed that the fader would control the MIDI velocities of each channel (MIDI output = MIDI note velocity * fader setting) so I could ajust the drum mix using the faders. That's not happening by default - is there a way to make it happen? I couldn't find anything in the ref manual but I'm hoping...

Re: Use Make Mix window faders adjust MIDI velocity?
MIDI velocity is different for every note. Your VI is using different samples, timbres, etc depending on how hard you hit the key (velocity).
The slider in PT controls the audio gain of the whole channel. If you want to add/subtract and offset to the velocity, open the MIDI editor, open the velocity lane, grab all the notes and then you can slide them up and down while preserving the relative differences.

Re: Use Make Mix window faders adjust MIDI velocity?
Thanks. I know that's one way to do it, but it sure would be easier if I could mix using the faders in the mix window like I mix everything else (including live drums). I'm a little surprised this isn't an option - doesn't seem like it would be too much effort to implement.

I'm glad you added the disclaimer at the start...since I AM a programmer.

There are definitely other ways to do it (as albee1952 says above, "The cool thing about digital is; there's 4 ways to do everything. The bad thing about digital is; there's 4 ways to..........."), but the appeal to me was the symmetry of doing it from the same mixer as all the other channels and being independent of the instrument. I definitely appreciate all the suggestions, though - thanks all! -Fred |
