You can't. One mic with one element is mono, no matter how you slice it. You can copy the mono left track to the right track, but it's still mono, jsut 3db louder.

In order to record in stereo you need two mics.

Thanks. At least if I copy it to the other side of the track, I can pan them and apply seperate effects.

No, you cannot apply spearate effects to the left and right of a stero track. You would need to copy it to another mono track to do this.

Many times I've recorded a mono mic (vocals) on a mono audio track. Then choose an stereo plug-in and when inserted the mono track changes to a stereo audio track
If you remove the stereo plug-in.....the track will go back to mono.

Well, I forget to completely type what I'm saying...soooooooo. If you put a DELAY (slap delay/ med delay/ long delay/ short delay) plug-in on your mono audio track it'll then become stereo...you'll hear the DELAY in stereo......on both the left side and on the right side. You will hear the original signal on one side and the delay on the other. So yeah it's stereo left side right side. With the delay plug-in inserted.... if you don't add or minus milli seconds to one of the left or right side signals it'll be a mono sound coming out of a stereo track.
True stereo or not, it's taking up a stereo audio track. Must be false stereo.
This is just a technique we've used at home and in big facilities. I'm sure there's more scientificly thought out methods, like just using a stereo mic or two mics

the delay won't make the mono file stereo.

Well, here's the Cambridge Dictionary definition of:
stereo [Show phonetics]
noun
1 [U] a way of recording or playing sound so that it is separated into two signals and produces more natural sound:
The concert will be broadcast in stereo.
...any comments?
