Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
Hi everyone!
I´m new to Pro Tools coming from Logic so maybe you can me help out as I am experiencing some problems with my Eleven Rack in Pro Tools 9. I create a stereo audio track in PT choose Eleven L/R as the input, which should be the wet one...and Main Out as the Output. The track is record enabled and I have Low Latency Monitoring On. What happens is: I only get an extremely weak signal which is a dry signal and only the left channel. I reread the manual, rechecked. No change. Only a barely audible dry signal on the left channel... The Eleven Window shows up correctly in PT and I can control the rigs, effects etc. perfectly fine - but - I cannot record anything. I also tried a different USB cable, different USB port - no change... I have the system preferences sound settings set to Eleven Rack In and Output and also tried Digi Core Audio Device. I have installed the latest drivers and firmware for the Eleven Rack. What am I missing? Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks guys! |

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
I would suggest you take a couple hours and give another read to the instruction manual to get a good foundation with your Eleven Rack.
Also give these videos a watch: http://www.youtube.com/user/avid#gri...989B8EE9459613 Also come here: http://www.avid.com/US/support/customer-assist Choose any Interface (11R is not listed, but it doesnt matter which you choose) Then click the "Tutorials" tab, and watch all the videos listed.

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
You might also try going to Setup > I/O, and set the Input, Output and Bus tabs to default (delete all the paths first, and do this without a session open). That's a pretty common place where things can get confusing.
Best of luck, and have fun!

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
Got it now! I spend the whole day yesterday - duplicated the setup with my laptop and tried lots of other stuff.
What I found out was: All my settings were correct, but it does not work if I switch on the Eleven Rack first and then my computer and the other gear. Now I turn on my computer and the Eleven Rack just shortly before I launch Pro Tools. I can repeat the mistake at will, works every time... If the Eleven is turned on first it also shows up correctly, everything appears as it should - except the scenario I described above. When I turn on the Eleven just before Pro Tools it works immediately... Thanks for you suggestions! All the best! |

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
You may also want to create a mono track (input selected to guitar in) simultaneously with your stereo wet track. That way you'll have a dry track to work with (Reamping) for either replacing or embellishing with new rigs, rather than having to redo a performance.

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
Speaking of 'weak signal', it has been mentioned on the forum that the 11R doesn't need the signal to be bouncing around 0db.
However, I've recently obtained an Effectrode magnetic pickup booster and this thing absolutely rocks. I've been recording guitar as normal, and then reamping the mono (dry) signal through the pickup booster and recording onto a new mono track. This opens up a whole new dimension of sounds within the 11R with a higher gain at the beginning of the signal chain. I also use the booster before the 11R input but I prefer to have both options so usually do the reamp thing. For those who are not familiar with the Effectrode brand, do yourself a favor and check it out. It aint cheap but it's high end gear and usually released in limited numbers. http://www.effectrode.com/website/tu...boost_main.htm |

Re: Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 9 Problem
That's a really interesting setup. There's definitely something to be said for boosting your pre-amplifier input signal (I use an MXR Micro Amp sometimes for that with real amps). You can also do this sort of thing by placing the Graphic EQ before the amp, flat with a +6dB boost...
I might have to pick up one of those boosters, though. Nice tip! And using it in a re-amp workflow still lets you get the benefits of the TRUE-Z input on your dry guitar. Good idea.
