Default S3 End of Life

I missed this so apologies if already posted.

Avid stopped selling the S3 31/12/21. End of life is 31/12/26.

Yes, unfortunately it was already on the cards pre COVID because of parts unavailability....COVID tripled that affect and made it impossible to manufacture anymore.

Yep. This is disappointing. I love the S3. Hopefully Eddie has enough parts in the warehouse to keep us going until 2026.

Will there be a successor to the S3 controller like when the C24 replaced the Control24? Considering the S3 and the newer Carbon were your only hardware sporting AVB I would think this will be somewhat limiting.

Highly doubt it.

Not sure AVB matters at all, who wants AVB in a small control surface? It was a left over from the S3L, and the S3L already died, a product that seemed to struggle in the competitive low end live market a. Avid has a confusing story with AVB and Dante (from DAD OEM products). Avid maintains AVB in the S6L and I expect they sell more revenue in S6L than in Carbon.

The S1 overlaps so much with the S3 and does more esp. with iPad integration. Sure the S1 can works well on a desk under a monitor. Maybe it would be more interesting to see other studio focused audio interfaces from Avid with AVB or Avid delivering some expansion capability for Carbon.

Still, I find there's a considerable gap between the S1 / Dock combo and a S4.
I think there's a pretty big market waiting there for a compact Eucon fader unit, some soft keys, and especially with a good selection of dedicated EQ / Dyn knobs as seen on the Icon series...!

This gives me the idea of a possible hardware add-on to the S1 series. Maybe Avid could make a similar sized unit with dedicated knobs for EQ and compression(and if there was still room, 5 knobs for send levels). They could even have the flip-up in the back to hold a tablet for Avid Control. They can call it Dock Master I can dream
