Default Digi 002R W/Apogee Rosetta sync

I have a OO2R and am using an Apogee Rosetta 200. Sync is established using SDIF.
When opening a 96K session, clock source SDIF, I do not get audio out of SDIF LT & RT.
I do get audio if I change outputs to 1&2,etc.
Now if I open another session at lower 44.1 or 48, Something tweaks the Rosetta so SDIF audio skips as if some one was pushing a mute every other second. If I shut everything down and restart app and hardware, everything works right again, SDIF and internal.
I have replaced the harness twice and the power supply in the DIGI 002R.
Hard to tell which unit is the culprit !
Also, have the option of light pipe or AES. Which is better for 96K considering I find the problem.
Is there a test to check the SDIF on the Digi 002R (loop the sdif) ?
It looks like one or both units may have to go back to factory for tech.

Mac G4 1.25 dual
OSX 10.3.9
ProTools 6.9

Thanks

What are you using for your master clock, sounds like they are both on external or something.

Hi,

For 96K... RCA SPDIF out of Rosetta into SPDIF IN on DIGI--DIGI RCA SPDIF out to Rosetta in. DIGI Hardware Setup--Digital input RCA--Clock source external--sample rate 96K. Rosetta clock internal--96K. Done. If you want to use lower sample rates, the Rosetta must always match.
The SPDIF outs mirror analog 1&2 out. No problem there. Monitor off the Rosetta for the best sound (that will confirm your DIGI SPDIF out works, as well)...
The light pipe outs won't do 96K, max is 48K with those connectors, S-MUX (which DIGI doesn't support) uses two ADAT connectors to accomplish sample rates above 48K. AES will require conversion to SPDIF for DIGI--so no point in it. You've got everything you need...(maybe a Big Ben clock?...)

Ummm, the lightpipe i/o work at 96k when in s/pdif mode (but not ADAT mode).

They did on the 001, but not on the 002 on all systems unless you know the work-around.

Just trying to clear things up.

Not trying to be pedantic but you might mean s/pdif, not SDIF.

SDIF is a different format.

Best regards,

I'm not sure about pedantic...correct is OK, but Bluesna is ready to send in things that might not be broken, so I'll go with helpful.
Yes, the optical out can do 96K-two channels, a waste of a perfectly good eight channel connector (ADAT format, 48or 44.1 K, blah, blah). I've been looking at too many 8 channel pre/converters lately to even go there. The RCA coaxial is perfect IMHO for 96K two channel. Unless you need more than 10 meters of cable.

My 002R has always had Analog 1/2 and S/PDIF (wouldn't want to piss/off Sony or Phillips, eh?) combined on the output side. Maybe the work around is in the I/O setup? My output "default" button there does break the S/PDIF away from Analog 1/2, but the Master fader still shows both as the same output, and a re-start put 1/2 and S/PDIF L/R back together I/O-wise. Regardless, I like it that way and I don't recall setting it up (though quite possible).

Maybe the solution you almost offered to those that don't already mirror is to click/select a channel's output, i.e. Analog 1/2, then control-click to add another output (S/PDIF L/R). Doesn't work on my Master faders, though (because they'll always show both combined). But that's what the book says...
