Default Setting up Mixer with Pro Tools through Interface

I am completely new to recording on pro tools with a mixer, before I just used a interface on ableton live lite so i am totally lost trying to set this up. Sorry if this has been asked before, I've tried looking online and setting it up on my own but no luck. I am trying to hook up my mixer to pro tools, and i was told the way to do this would be to hook up my mixer to a interface and the interface to my computer. i also read i would need monitors for my setup so i got a pair. im not sure if the monitors need a power amp?

I hooked up the interface to the mixer through the line out on the interface to the stereo out of the mixer with quarter inch cables. then i plugged the monitors to the monitor out of the mixer, even if I did plug everything in correctly I still wouldn't know how to set it up in pro tools.

Here is my setup:

Mixer: Yamaha MG166CX Stereo Mixer
Interface: Saffire 6 USB
Monitors: KRK Rokit 6's
Windows 7 with Pro Tools 10
Guitar, mic, and quarter inch cables.
I also have a Crown XLS 1000 Power Amplifier i could borrow if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have all the gear I just can't figure out how to get it all to work and it sucks because I really want to record with friends and have fun with it. If anymore information about my setup is needed let me know.

Default Re: Setting up Mixer with Pro Tools through Interface

Can you describe the way in which you want to record? I mean, are you using the mixer to record with or mix? I'm not sure your current setup is going to give you the flexibility you want - on the other hand, it may be too much as the mixer might not even be needed. Also, you don't want to plug an output to an output as you've described - outputs go to inputs. The Rokit 6's can be powered or passive - it should indicate on the back what yours are.
