Default PT8 First Impressions + "treacle" problem

I don't like the interface right now but I know it'll grow on me. Worse is that's it's a bit sluggish... mouse movements and whatnot just feel a bit slow & jerky. Minimise PT and it's fine, maximise it and it's treacle-time. Hmmm... I'll maybe do a bit of optimisation on the old PC to see if that helps. has been fine in every other version of PT though.

Have you tried any of the General Troubleshooting steps yet, specifically trashing prefs (to 'reset' everything)?

Also, have you absolutely positively verified all installed plug-ins meet the minimum requirements?

Also - are you on XP or Vista?

Thanks for the quick reply!!! I've trashed prefs but not verified my plugins, I have to admit. I'll give that spin!

Thanks again,
Steve.

Okay, bit more info - running XP, have the MPTK and was trying to see the new toolkit upgrade options but the link (http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...8&itemid=35670) takes me to the Digidesign 404 page - the whole site is running pretty slow but I can fully understand that at the mo!

Can't get onto the plugin compatibility guide at http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...n=news_details either so I just decided to remove all non-Digi plugins. Trashed the prefs again, fired it up and it's still happening...

I'll have a look through my PC's config, see if there's anything I can do but it was flying and solid as a rock with PT7. The last time I had to trash my prefs was Feb 07 according to the backup of the DAE prefs folder!

Cheers,
Steve.

I wish I could share some first impressions but I've been trying to get onto digidesign.com for 2 hours now just to download it...

Yeah, the new plugins look great and once I get used to the new GUI I know I'm gonna love it - the comping feature alone is worth the money for me.

I was hoping to get away without a fresh OS install but it'll probably be worth it, I suppose. Let me know how you fare with yours before I go to thru the hassle, Weezul... :)

Cheers,
Steve.

I was fortunate to be having a bit of insomnia last night when the email came in. I started the Dl's and when I woke up they were done. Installation went fairly straight forward although my machine kept hanging on the desktop until on the 3rd reboot it went.

A couple of nice things right off the bat are the templates menu on session open. Yeah it's simple but great for writing songs. I fired up one of the Rock guitar ones and was blown away by Eleven and by the Sans amp. I've been using pod farm and based on what I've tried so far i might have to go for the full eleven bundle. So far I am not having any performance issues at all.

I like the look of the new interface. The new comping system is also so easy to use. it's a great system.

Good stuff, Sidecut. I've decided to plough ahead with it feeling a little bit sluggish and see how it goes - maybe it'll fix itself at some point. :)

One thing I instantly noticed and didn't like was the lack of any graduations on the faders when in narrow view... you used to have the little lines which made it easier to compare the level of one track to another. I know, mix with your ears not your eyes, but I'm sure some other people found it useful too. Onwards and upwards...
