Default Multiple interfaces onto protools

I had protools express doing basic things and i just recently upgraded to protools 11. I have an mbox that i was using but i needed a 8channel interface to record drums so i went basic and bought an m-audio fast track ultra 8r off a buddy of mine. Now i got it to work perfectly but i was told i can get both my fast track and mbox to work for more channels for my personal drum set which i would need exactly 10 channels for. How can i get both interfaces to work? Thanks.

Unfortunately you cant do this in PT Software land. Combining interfaces is still a HD only feature. You best bet would be to sell both and pickup a used 003. This will give you 8 analog inputs and can be expanded to 18 by using a 8 Channel ADAT preamp and 2 channels of SPDIF. Or you could spring for any number of ASIO compliant devices from Focusrite, Presonus etc.

But couldn't the op use an aggregate device if he's on a Mac to use the two together?

He could, but Aggregate Audio is a funky, sometimes unstable method.

He would do better to just get an interface that has the I/O he needs. Besides the 003, the Focusrite units would also be a good choice.

Does the Mbox work standalone (not connected to a computer)? If so, you could connect the Mbox to the 8r using SPDIF and get 2 more inputs that way. I know the 8r does not work standalone.

The Mbox 3 Pro does, for 2 channels via Spidf, but not the others.
