I have very rarely trashed prererences on my systems. The rare occasions are exception to this rule, but I myself don't buy this religion. It does no good, it only deletes your user preferences.
Yes, I have the same experience. In the last 5 years of using PT 8hrs/day, 5 days/week I've probably had to trash prefs *maybe* three or four times.

i guess it depends on your system and what 3rd party items you use with it .. you guys are the lucky ones .. i do not know anyone that has only tossed pref's 3-4 times in 5 years .. sounds more like a fairy tale .. happy to hear someone has no issues ..
