Default Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \"disk might be fragmented\"

Hi! I'm new at computer recording and I have problems!!!
I have a imac G3 233 it runs on OS 9.2.
I don't have an audio-midi interface yet, but I am still trying to get pro tools free working!
When I press "record" it says " Unable to allocate disk space. Your disk might be fragmented."
What can I do?

Thanks in advance!!!

You have to defragemnt your hard drive. Buy a copy of Norton Disc Doctor for OS 9 from ebay. Large files, such as audio files produced by Protools, tend to fragment drives.

I don't know what that is, but if it defragments your hard drive it is what you need.

If that's the original drive in that old imac it's small, slow, and likely near death. Recording to your system drive is not recommended though on a Rev 1 iMac you don't really have a choice.

I wouldn't trust a Norton disk to even be in the same room with my Mac. If you must de-frag (which I don't recommend) use a better utility like TechTool or Diskwarrior.

The best thing to do short of getting a better Mac would be to install a newer drive, and partition it so your audio files are on a separate volume from your system. The biggest drive that your iMac will see is 120G so there's no point in getting anything bigger.

Beige G3s are dirt cheap these days, and a much better machine for PTF IMHO.
