Default Which plugins would you choose??

Hi mates,

Need some opinions here, need to choose between these:

1. ReVibe or TLSpace ?

2. Smack or TL Aggro or Slightly Rude Compressor?

3. is the BF Pultec any good?

I'm considering the HD|2 upgrade and have a choice of 5 plugins.

We do mainly Audio Post, so DINR is "needed".. and occasional recordings for Albums, so perhaps I'll need some reverbs and Compressors too.. now left with 4 more to choose.

Any suggestions?

Thanks & Regards!

Well, for one, DINR is useless.

1. TL Space

2. UAD compressors 1176 & La2a

3. URS Fulltec

The Waves Restoration Bundle is much better than DINR

DINR is not useless, but you must know how to use it right. It has some learning curve. I have used it in the past on many projects with success.

Of course there are today better alternatives. My favorite now is DNS2000.

As others have said DINR is pretty useless, I have gotten better results with Waves C1 noise reduction settings...

Revibe uses TDM only, TLSpace is RTAS and TDM... do you have a preference? For sheer sound quality I don't know about TL but ReVibe is no slouch...

Smack! I think wld be your best choice... it is more versatile than Slightly Rude... I have not used TL Aggro

BF Pultec sounds very good, but at higher settings there is alot of quantization noise which is unacceptable... you can hear it when the audio stops... this grainy kind of fading out sound which is a tail to the original sound... even so, its a very useful plug...

Hope this helps...

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. I've been using the DINR (LE version from DV Toolkit on my 001), and there are times when it really works, so I'm not sure if the FULL version is "better".

However, I think there are some mates that are selling it off here and in GS, so perhaps I'll get it used, and then pick

1. ReVibe
2. TL Space
3. TL Aggro
4. BF Pultec
5. SMACK

Good choice?? or maybe I'll still hang on to DINR and then give up one of the above..

Not sure about Smack--it seems to make the stereo spread narrower and I'm not too keen on the sounds I'm getting (a bit dull). But I'm sure it has its applications somewhere. I really like the 1176 and LA-2 emulations on the UAD1 card we've got. I assume the TDM version would be just as good or better. TL Space is a great plug--it will indeed run on TDM.

Good luck.

I don't have TL Aggro, but I do have Smack and Slightly Rude. I think Slightly Rude is underrated--it has a great feature where it will not clip the output--it just slams to zero and saturates. If you turn the "rudeness" knob to zero and crank the input, you can get an extra couple db on a master bus, for instance, without using a limiter (this can sound harsh if overdone). On occassion, I like to use it the same way on a drum bus to add a little bit of an aggressive edge to the kit.

The only thing I really like Smack for is kicking the crap out of a drum room mic.

Sonic Solutions for De-noise work.
It's pricey but absolutely destroys DINR.
Used to get some decent, not great results with DINR.
I worked with the Waves restoration stuff for a time but Sonic won out.

I liked Smack at first but it's not aging well with me for the most part.
