Default ProTools 2018 on MacBook i7 quad core 2017?

Hello,

Does anyone happily use MacBook touch bar 2017 (current model) to run ProTools 2018?

I'm thinking if I can use the MacBook pro for my main mixing machine in the safe mode with two displays.
(outside GPU box will help?)

My current machine is the Mac Mini (i7 2.6GHZ Quad Core, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSDx2).

Please let me know. I'd very appreciate.

I'm happily running Protools 2018.3 on a 2017 15" MacBook Pro (Touch Bar) with 16 Gb RAM and 1028GB SSD. However, I'm just using the built-in display for now.

It works very smoothly for me. I'm not a heavy power user and usually use about 20-30 tracks and a few plugins (compressors, reverbs, and EQ). I use several different audio interfaces that I have over the years. I automate mixing and use Avid and 3rd party plugins. I don't do video, which I understand requires more RAM (about 32GB) which the current MacBook Pros only max out at 16 GB). I do use virtual instruments sometimes but mostly track audio for my projects. I do bands (drum, bass, guitars, keyboards, vocals), as well as choirs and vocal ensembles. I've done orchestras in the past and that is one time I used about 60 tracks of audio. I keep my system pretty clean and dedicated for Protools so I don't have a lot of software conflicts. I generally record to the internal SSD nowadays and it works fine for my purposes. Even my sound libraries are on the internal SSD. I use external drives mostly for backup. So like I said I don't have any issues with my setup.

I seem to be just rambling as I'm not sure what your are looking for. Is there any particular usage you are interested in?

Just set up Pro Tools 2018 on a friend's brand new Macbook Pro (purchased last month.) Went off without a hitch. Very fast, snappy.

As far as external displays, I use my mid-2012 Macbook Pro in "clamshell" mode with the Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display. Works great!

Thank you all for your information. Sorry for my lack of communication because of my English.

Do anyone have any other information about the computer?
Fan Noise? How many tracks and plugins can run on a 96khz PT native cpu session?

There is zero fan noise on my Macbook when running normal sessions. Every once in a while on a very heavy session, the fan will kick on. Also, I keep the dynamic video option (I forget exactly what its called atm) checked in OSX. Avid suggests turning this off, but if I do, the GPU fan kicks on 100% of the time, so I leave it on. No issues.

I can't speak for 96khz, but I run 44.1 and I have never exceeded 60% CPU usage on my largest sessions (48-64 tracks, multiple plugins such as Equilibrium and Slate VMR on every track.)

Hope this helps you!

I've had no problems running Pro Tools 2018 on my MacBook Pro 2016 with touch bar. I utilize the Thunderbolt 3 dock from OWC to connect to my interface, 3 hard drives and 2 monitors.
