The AIR plugs v2 should support AAX AU and VST. So they should be able to be hosted in VEP. Whether there will be any advantage to that I can't say

The need for vep in older versions of pro tools is for the ability to use more RAM than 3-4gb. So with pt10 or older, it's not a question of performance gain with lots of VIs, its a question of being able to load all of your VIs at once or not. Go or no-go.

The need for vep in pt11 is not really for ram, its a workaround for loading plugins that don't yet have AAX versions. I haven't played with vep and pt11 enough yet to see if theres any need for it beyond that.
