Make sure your Mastering software supports an IDE burner...many don't. Also make sure this particular unit is on the Mastering software companies "Approved" compatibility list.

Personally, I wouldn't put a CD burner in my music computer. They create a lot of extra heat and noise. I use an external SCSI burner that's turned off when I'm recording.

I haven't any experience with the 12x Plextor but I do have the 8x ide and it works flawlessly. I have used the included Adaptec software as well as SonicFoundry's CD Architect. So as long as you are using an IDE approved software then you;re good to go.

I really am not sure if plextore's heat does any thing. My little brother has an old computer he customized quite crudely and it is extremely hot and he has burned thousands of disks with his plextore and not a single coaster he says. It has only been 2 years now ...knock on wood for my Bro.

I use the Plextor internal IDE in my system: PIII 1 GHz, 512 RAM...and it has worked flawlessly.

This drive is VERY quiet. You get what you pay for. Execellent for music.
