Digidesign Interface Compatibility

I'm sure this has been asked quite a bit, but after 10 minutes of searching I wasn't really able to find an answer.

Why will Pro Tools 9 (and probably 10) not work with Digidesign LE interfaces? I thought it could work with "any interface." From what I now understand, the Digidesign LE interfaces are the ONLY ones it won't work with.

I haven't been here in a while so I'm not up to speed on recent PT issues. Like I said I did a search, but everything I entered seemed to return hundreds of answers, but none about that specific question.

PT 9 and 10 work just fine with Digidesign interfaces. Not sure where you heard that. The only one that doesn't is the original Mbox 1 because it's so old, and not compatible with the Mac and Windows operating systems required for the newer versions of Protools.


Perhaps you're confusing the fact that some of the older Digi interfaces will not be supported past PT10.

We installed PT9 in a computer lab and it wouldn't work with our Mbox minis.

Is there something you have to do to make it work.

Pro Tools 9/10 supports Mbox 2, Mbox (3rd gen), Eleven Rack, etc., as well as 3rd party interfaces.

Make sure you install the drivers for your interface (and after you install, launch PT and hold the N key until you get to the Playback Engine window).

Right.

Unlike the previous LE versions, you must install hardware drivers separately.
