Default O.T. Powerbook G4 and Toast Titanium

Hello,

This is not really a Protools question, but most of us here are also Mac tech heads as well, so:

I use Toast Titanium to burn CD-R backups of Protools Sessions that I do on my Powerbook G4, using the Combo Drive that comes with them.
However, whenever I insert a blank CD, the Mac OS 9.2.2 says "the disk is unreadable do you want to initialize, if not eject"
Only if I have Toast open and in the front, does it not do this, which is annoying and I always forget, so Im constantly ejecting and reinserting CD's

Does anyone know what extenstions need to be disabled/enabled to stop this? I want the Mac to not care at all what I insert into the drive and let the Toast extensions deal with it personally.

Any advice?
thanks ahead
MT

Hi!

I´ve got the same problem, too.
But I haven´t figured out a solution yet.
It seems you have to open Toast first.
To me that´s a bug I can live with.

MT,

It seems to me that you would want the Mac OS to look at things you put in the drive to see if it is media of a valid format. Otherwise if a blank CD were accepted, since there is no information on it, it would not mount on the desktop and then how do you eject it. Unless Apple writes an extension that supports mounting unrecognized media (with an ? icon perhaps, although already used when your boot drive goes south) then the only solution I can see is to remember to boot Toast first. Not a huge issue, is it?

Perhaps someone else has some insight.

Peace,

well actually stoneinapod, thats exactly what the toast driver does.

Before there were any cd burners that came with macs, toast would handle all the blank media that was inserted and whether it was blank or used...

On a side note, my G4 466 desktop does not have this behavior. I tried to copy the extension set from there, but it doesnt seem to work...

Any one else?

Hi Mt.Everest,

if you use the newest update version of Toast Titanium you will see a new window coming up that shows:

initialize / eject / toast 5

regards

It's the Mac OS 9.2.x Authoring Support extensions that cause this behaviour. Try disabling all authoring support extensions (there are a few of them).
This will mean you won't be able to burn CDs directly from iTunes though...

MT,

Just a quick apology for muddying the waters. Having re-read the post I realized that I had had a temporary something. I know I could just ignore it, but bogus answers are bogus. I'll think about what I want to say next time a little longer.

Peace,

Yorik

Wellnitz has got it -
This is true for Toast 5 LE as well.
I downloaded 5.0.2 and all was well.

Clutch - no need to disable authoring with Toasts new Patch.

Apologies - I'll try it. Thanks.

... 5 minutes later ....

actually you need to disable the USB authoring support extension if you are using a USB burner. Otherwise it works ok with both Toast and iTunes.
