Unhappy Running out of CPU Power

I seem to get the error message "Running out of CPU Power remove some native plugins or increase CPU usage limit"
The Playback engine is set at 1024 Samples, 6 processors, 95% usage limit,
no check on ignore errors, Delay compensation Maximum, PLug in buffer Level 2, Lynx AES 16e audio card and Aurora 16 interface all latest firmware and drivers the same goes for eveything in my computer I am using an AVID MC Control and 2 Avid Mixers so I have to have networking on these work fine just issues with PT 10.3.3
I just upgraded the memory to 6 4gb Sticks 24 gb max i7 920 processor,
separate drives for everything system 1 drive, 2 1Tb audio drives, 1 1 Tb Video drive ASUS P6T MB have done all item AViD lists as needed for optimzation and I am only using 2 native plugins. PT 10.3.3, Nvidia Quatro NVS 450 Video card all latest updates and I can't think of anything else.
Sometime it just starts distorting on playback after 4 - 5 minutes of playback
reseting the Buffer size seem to fix it but only for awhile but this setup causes the least Running out of CPU errors but sometime distortion happens
Anybody have any ideas. I would send a sandra report but have never heard of that except here. I have been using this system without issue for quite some time with Samplitude and Sequoia for mastering and have never had these type of issues. If Sandra is a program please send me a link or at least an answer to this issue I would like to resolve it before I call avid.
Thanks

Default Running out of CPU Power

I use 7 processors and 99% and rarely have issues with that. Something about an odd number of processors makes for better use of CPU.

Try using Odd Number CPUs and you might not beleive this but sometimes going down is better than going up. Try 2, 3,5 and see what happens

Thanks Guys I will try that I had noticed when I went to 4 from 6 processors and back again things got better but I will try the odd number of cores till I find the right combination. I also just turned off Delay compensation and that made it better and played for over 30 minutes without any issues then it started with the distortion no CPU error but I have turned it back on. I will try all these I do need to get to sleep I have an Internet meeting with France early with one of the companies I test for. But these are some good ideas I will try them and see which works the best.
Thanks

Smile Re: Running out of CPU Power

I have the same MB and CPU and I run my system at 4.2Ghz. I run a closed loop water color, but many air cooled are just as effective.

I would max out the memory, turn off window services you do not need, drop your sampling rate to 44.1khz (@24bit), buy a good CPU cooler and try over clocking to 3.6 Ghz and move up from there. Just watch your temps at full load. There are tons of how-to-guides on the net that explain over clocking.

Best of luck

Windows users need to provide a Sandra report

- Please - Use SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application to generate a full system profile:

www.sisoftware.co.uk

Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC.

You can find videos on how to create a Sandra report here (generously provided by DUC member Benoni) :

I see you're on a Mac (and this is the Windows forum).
I'm on a 6 core / 12 thread processor and PT 10 just didn't like using odd number processors at all - it's like it couldn't handle dividing the core and only using 1 thread. The system is shut down now, so I can't check on the even number I'm at now. But it only behaves with an even number - it was really upset when I tried to use odd.

I'm running a six core CPU with hyperthreading off in bios. I use 5 for PT @99% and leave one for the system. Of all the combos, with and without hyperthreading, this has been the most stabile (not the most powerful), with the widest variety of plug-ins on this rig.
