Default how to downgrade from 8.0.3 to 8.0.1/8.0

Hi Folks,

I recently got a killer deal on a brand new 003r-plus, and I need to use PT 8 or 8.0.1 on my machine: PowerbookG4 running osx10.5.8

I've done research on these forums and elsewhere enough to know with certainty that PT8/003r will run on my machine...the issue is that I knew that installer disc that came with my 003 is for 8.0.3(intel-only). The store has a good return policy so I thought id risk it, cause the deal was too good to pass up; $800 for a new 003r-plus factory!

Some of the forums have mentioned that if I register my device/software, I will have access to previous versions of PT which would be great and I want to confirm it.... What else do I need to know about this process?

I just want to make sure, since if I do anything to register etc my devices/software it might be a pain to get a refund

thanks...
krisjan

hi...

continued to do some more research and found this

http://shop.avid.com/store/product.d...24157342779680

Could I purchase the backup disc for PT LE 8.0 and then use the authorization code that came with my PT LE 8.0.3 DVD?

My auth. code goes like this

PT 8.0 LE Authorization Code

Mac OSX 10.5/WIN XP/Vista

DIGI0800
.. etc

The second sticker on the dvd wallet shows that it is a 8.0.3 protools version inside...However the auth. code sticker suggests it is a code for 8.0 in general?

Seems like 20bucks is not a big deal to give it a shot, since 8.0.3 wont even install on my PPC machine and so I wouldnt be able to authorize it online anyway!

any ideas are appreciated..thanks

I would bet that will work. Also, once you register the software and have a MyAvid account, you might be able to navigate to a download for PT8.0. Or maybe another Pro Tooler in your area has PT8 install disks and you can borrow long enough to run the installer.

hi al...

that's encouraging news...both ideas seem alright. I'll give the backup disc a shot and post my results :)

i just had to get that piece of kit even with these issues...the price was unreal for the quality.

thanks

Update...

Well seems that my idea was not useful only in the sense that I figured out, that the 8.0.3 disc that came with 003rack+ can install 8.0.1, and am happy to say that it works perfect on my good ol' powerbook g4.

So now I have backup discs which is ok...like i said before, it was only 20 bucks with free shipping, not a big risk

That said, I believe the Avid Store should be clearer in the naming of the backup discs. It clearly says that the backup discs that will be sent are '8.0' not 8.0.3 with 8.0.1(which is what it is)

Its confusing because the other backup discs for previous versions show detail to three numbers while the PT8 is only two.

Anyway, like I said, it's all working great. However, the Factory plugin installer is nowhere to be found on my discs that came with my 003 rack+ factory, yet i have all the Ilok and registration cards etc etc. Ill post an update about that in another post...

So to finish off...the few powerbook owners left in this world can rest assured that Pt8.0.1 will work on their machine...i do have my eyes on an imac soon though :)

take care,
krisjan

I have a similar situation, trying to install 8.0.1 on a PowerPC G5 but the disc that came with my Avid MBox Mini is 8.0.4 and refuses to install.

If I purchase the backup 8.0 disc, will it allow me to install 8.0.1?
