What are your favorite plugins?
Now that we're just about setup with our New ProTools HD accel system (windows XP),
I'm allowed a budget to spend on plugins. Most of our work is related to post production stuff. Recording voice overs, mixing sound FX, BG etc. We also do some music mixing. If you had $10,000, how would you make your priority list? |

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
All McDSP plugs, or at least all applicable for post, Sony, URS. IMO all of these are must have.
For weird FX I'd get D-Fi bundle, Antares AVOX for vocs, Bruno/Rezo, EchoFarm for delays, TL EveryPhase and of course VocALign. Waves has some nice plugs but I'm not sure if you want to go through their WUP program where you basicly pay for renting their plugs. I'm doing just fine without their plugs. There are so many more must have plugs but I'll let others list them out for you. |

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
TL Space and Revibe for reverbs.
I would have recommended UA LA-2A for compression, but they have basically dropped support for TDM. In the future, I guess I'll show them as much loyalty as they've shown me... Anybody know of an LA-2A like plug that sounds as good as the old UA one? I second the vote for the McDSP and URS plugs. |

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
URS, TL plugs, McDSP, Eventide Anthology, and the Sony Oxford stuff. Could probably do several grand right there.
Love ReVibe and TL Space for verbs. I have heard great things about Altiverb...(sorry, I have personal issue at this time) I actually like the Digi EQ3, and the Dyn3 has it's place as well I think. I have an extreme distaste for Waves. It is purely a personal issue that resulted from a bad experience. I proceeded to find plugs that did the same job, and have been incredibly happy with my choices/replacements. In one way, it was the best thing that could have happened, because I discovered plugs I find to be better suited for my tastes. I will say that some of their plugs are pretty cool though. UAD has dropped support. Will you need VocAlign? An "auto-tune" type thing? The FXpansion VST wrapper could also open up some possibilities...WELL worth the $$$.

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
Hi,
As well as the VST -Rtas wrapper take a look at the new Sony Duende. Currently only for Mac but PC coming out in Fall. http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/duende_home.html Thumbs up on McDSP also. All the best, Big D

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
i'll assume this is stereo post prod.. not surround?
to me, post-prod is all about getting 100 pounds of audio into a 10 pound sack ;-) as such, i would focus on: ambience phase-accurate EQ compression stereo-imaging limiting Ambience... delays: the Digi short/medium/long delays are just fine ... reverb: Digi ReverbOne, Revibe are excellent. in post prod, you *must* have a good convolution reverb to model a variety of spaces.. and the Waves IR/1 (full version) is the best of the lot .. and the Acoustics.net library is a wonderful resource. The Trillium stuff is OK .. but sounds thin when compared to the IR/1 .. don't know why .. don't need to ;-) EQ: The Digi EQIII series is very good .. but if you don't want to get into wicked phase problems late in the game, the Waves LinEQ is great .. and has deep cuts to trim out problems. Compression: Smack! is a superb compressor .. extremely versatile. side-chains, models a variety of classic compressor designs. For wide-band taming, the Waves C4 is excellent as well. Stereo Imaging: Waves S1 ... look no further Limiting: I'm very fond of the L series from Waves (L1, L2, and L3). I bounce back and forth between the L2 and L3 because sometimes the multi-band limiting of the L3 can unbalance a mix. if you have stuff left over ..the transformer bundle from waves has a lot of goodies for Fx .. and Melodyne 3 is the best of the best in terms of pitch/formance and timing editing. if you have any more left over .. please send it to me ... i don't have a budget .. i have a wife ;-) jeff |

Re: What are your favorite plugins?
If I had $10,000 I would wait for the Massive Pack to come out and I would jump on it.
Basically $8000 worth of plugins for about $1,200. The Massive Pack is a good cross section of a lot of different software manufactures. It's a great Bang for your Buck!
