Default Mbox 2 Pro altered by BLACK LION...

Is buying a new MBox 2 Pro and having it altered by Black Lion Audio ($295- clock...) worth it? How does it now compare to the 002 (audio wise)?

Doing sequencing and vocals....

THANKS YOU!

One of the most difficult things in audio is to compare price/performance ratios. What might me a good deal for one may not matter to another. Would that $300 be better spent on a good mic? Or perhaps a good mic pre that you could use with other equipmnent. Or even spend more on an external clock that you could use for years.

Good luck on your search.

IMHO, even if it helps, it's like polishing a turd.

I own an Original Mbox that has been Modded by Black Lion. It actually sounds really good. IT was definitely worth it for the original mbox as I probably couldn't sell it for much, and as you may know USB 1.0 is pretty useless for track count and plug-ins. But this thing is really now handy for live 2 track recordings, and just throwing in a backpack to record stereo demo's, Guitar/voice, or whatever. To my ear it sounds WAY better than before, and much richer than the stock 003 pre's. Hard to descibe micpre sounds on paper so sorry for the vauge discription! I know you are talking about an Mbox2, and so I can't say if it would be worth it if you are gonna buy the thing new, and then pay for the upgrade. there may be better ways to spend the money? But if you had one sitting around and you don't want to do the Digi trade-up thing, I'd say it's worth it.

Hope that helps at all.

'lipstick on a pig', I'm going to remember that!

Either way, the things that disappoint me about the Mbox 2 Pro aren't directly related to how it sounds. It's the fact that the S/PDIF doesn't work right, and it doesn't cooperate with other Firewire devices correctly, and it's twice as expensive as better devices, and... these are just my opinions, based on using one for a week.

Second that ...despite the obvious issue clocking above 48 Sample Rates, Playback Engine errors amass loud profanities even with supported SIIG 1394 PCI Adapter (Windows).
