Default MIDI not following Grid

I have a friend that owns a Mbox and is runing PT LE 7.something on a laptop running Win XP.
He brought the laptop to my studio to show me this wierd problem, and since I'm running 6.4 on a Mac I didn't know how to help.
When he tries to input MIDI notes on the MIDI track using the pencil, the notes simply don't follow the grid OR the note line on the track.
i.e.: I try to add a C note on bar 10 it just goes to bar 6 on B. It doesn't follow a pattern at all.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

We would need to know more info about their system.

You may want to have them try at all the steps in the Win XP/ Pro Tools 6.x/7.x General Troubleshooting thread and see if any of them help.

Ok, I have the computer next to me

Windows XP Professional 2002 ServicePack 2
PT LE 7.1
Reason 3 build 514

The machine is a Toshiba Satellite SA60-185 (that's what's writen under it)

I found now that the problem is somehow related to the zoom... when it's zoomed out it works, when I zoom in, it doesn't...
OR maybe it's random... I don't know.
I'll try the troubleshooting and post back.
