High resolution 14 bit MIDI automation
Hi all -
How would one automate high res MIDI in protools? I have a device with takes TWO bytes of MIDI info (ie 16384 steps instead of 128) on two different CC locations to control a single parameter (filter position in this case) One is the coarse data (MSB) and the other is the fine data (LSB), so they would not be identical automation. How can I write automation data to take advantage of both bytes? Writing to one CC is easy enough, but I need protools to realize this is two CCs that have to be written as one. I don't believe it could be done on two separate CC/automation lanes. Thanks! Geoff |

Re: High resolution 14 bit MIDI automation
What happens when you record midi from the device now? Does it show up as CC data on two tracks or NRPN data on a single track?
DAWs don't do well with NRPN and SYSEX. They can record it all day long but have no implementation for transmitting new info to devices. You may have to get a dedicated solution outside of your DAW. M-Audio keyboards will do NRPN as will some older control surfaces like the Peavy PC1600. The Logic environment may also have a custom NRPN feature built-in. Good luck! |
