Distorted Audio
I recently decided to buy a years worth of monthly payments of Pro Tools 2020 to make my life easier for recording, mixing and producing. I was super psyched about it until I realized that the sound coming out of pro tools was very distorted and I made sure this was not due to the track I was listening/recording. I talked to my songwriting/production teacher about it and he told me to change the buffer size both lower a higher to test it out but even though it sounded better at it’s highest setting it was still very distorted. He then told me to change the bit rate and the cache size but neither of these things worked. My question to y'all is (a) do you know maybe what's going on? and (b) do you have any idea how to fix it?
Thank you for your help! (P.S. Not sure if this will help but my computer is an Acer Aspire 5) |

Re: Distorted Audio
Hi, welcome to the community.
Please take a look at the Help Us Help You page that is linked to the forum header. And then drop your master fader down a lot and see if the distortion goes away. That may give you a hint. If it goes away, insert a limiter to the master fader of your output, then drive the output back up again. If it does not distort the same way, you know you have problem with gain staging.

Re: Distorted Audio
Thank you for your advice! What I am trying to solve though is all the sound coming out of my Pro Tools as no matter what track I record/put in it always comes out distorted.

Re: Distorted Audio
Oh I see, my bad. Here is the missing information:
Computer: Acer Aspire 5 slim laptop CPU Speed: 3.52 GHz Computer Memory size: 4GB OS: Windows 10 S (switched out of S mode) All information about computer found here: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Display-...5407340&sr=8-3 Pro Tools Version: Pro Tools 2020.12 Connected Devices: Yamaha YPG-235, AT2020 USB microphone, VicTsing MM057 2.4G Wireless Portable Mobile Mouse and OneOdio Wired Over Ear Headphones (the first and second of which connected by a ten foot USB-A to USB-B cable). Drivers installed: Yamaha YPG-235 windows driver Troubleshooting already tried: (1)Turning up and down the buffer size and finally settling on 1024 Samples which was better than the others but still very distorted (2)Changing the cache size to no avail. (3)Trying to call avid for support but being allowed to get to an agent (something about my model of pro tools) (4) EMailing Avid without response. (5) Reading through many Avid help forums including this one. Hopefully that helps you more! |
