Default Wanting to upgrade from PT9.....But!

Hi All,

I've only just got back into using Pro Tools again after a few years away from music/audio, and the latest version I'm running is v9.0.0.

I'm looking to upgrade to a newer version, but what's important to me is, I still want to keep running RTAS plugins, and I've noticed the latest version no longer supports these.

I can't see anywhere, that Avid offers anything but the latest version to upgrade to. What I'd like to buy is the last version that offered RTAS and AXX, before RTAS was no longer supported (which I think is v10).

Is there any option these days to upgrade to a specific version?

Regards
Mike

The Pro Tools Upgrade Reinstatement Plan will give you licenses for PT 10, 11 and 12 when you surrender your old PT license.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did see that Reinstatement Plan option in the store, although it wasn't clear that it also provides access to earlier releases than v12.

However, it appears this plan requires an annual renewal fee of $99/year (yes?). Is there an option to purchase PT v10 outright anymore?

You can see what's included under specifications.

Yes, it's an annual upgrade plan.

You can't purchase PT 10 from the Avid Store. Upgrade Reinstatement Plans include 10/11/12 to make the transition as smooth as possible (I assume).

The important question then becomes; will Pro Tools 10 appear under your MyAvid account>My Products? That could be a buzzkill unless you know someone that has downloaded and save the 10 installer(10.3.8 would be my choice of all the 10.x versions)

...And under this new 'annual plan' model, if you don't renew your subscription, does the newer version you upgrade to stop working, or do you just no longer have access to support/software updates?

I just find it hard to swollow, that having purchased and owned outright, every version of PT since v5, I can now no longer upgrade (and own) a newer version.

I'm sure this topic has been well and truly covered in the past, however I'm only just coming to terms with it, now I'm starting to use PT again.

ps. I see online you can still purchase PT10 from various retailers. Would that version not be one of the older versions that, once installed, you own and don't require a subscription for?

Since you can upgrade from PT 9 to a PT 10/11/12 bundle, I can't imagine that you won't have access to the latest installers for each of them. That would be 10.3.10 in this case. I will ask Avid to confirm this.

The upgrade reinstatement plan gives you a perpetual, non-expiring license for PT 10/11/12. The latest released version will continue to work if you choose not to renew your plan.

The latest released version your plan covers.

Subscription = rented. You stop paying, Pro Tools stops working at the end of your subscription date.

Annual Upgrade And Support Plan = perpetual license. You stop paying, Pro Tools continues to work past the end of your annual upgrade and support plan date, but, you're "frozen" at the last release before the end of your annual upgrade and support plan. No future updates/upgrades unless you're on the annual upgrade and support plan.
