Default Re: Avid's Response to the NEW Mac Pro

With the existing "Trash Can Mac Pro's" for those of us wanting to use
HDX cards we had to buy this:
https://www.sonnetstore.com/collecti...mac-pro-server

Right off the top we save $2 K (once the unit is set up with expansion bays).
So when you take a trashcan and lay it out it costs about $7500.00
Now these new MAC Pro's and their price seem good in comparison.
My Cheese Grater Macs cost $5K in 2012.
They have lasted 7 years so far.
If we take the cost based on 250 days a year of work, divided by
7 years it costs less than $2.86 a day!
It makes the new Macs and the flexibility and power look that more
attractive!

Progress denier - I love it!

The cost....Marti I think for a larger shop the economics stack up well, for the smaller more boutique outfit (such as moi) less so...

Two maxed out Mac minis for the price of one new cheese grater. That's one option.

Plus, they are going to make a rack mount version, so that will be nice. Hopefully it's not too much extra./Users/protools12s/Desktop/MAc Pro Rack.png

One big thing I don't hear in the discussion of the new Mac Pro: Its mere existence is proof of Apple's commitment to professionals. This will benefit all Mac users, as third-party software developers will redouble their support of macOS.

Apple is committed to pros? - it killed Aperture off “without so much as a by my leave”. It also didn’t make friends with the fcp7-fcpx debacle either.....
Committed to $ yes

Ha! Yes, I get it. I'm just imagining an alternate reality in which Apple discontinued the Pro computer line and focussed on iPhone. Then there would be riots in the streets! Recent news is pretty good by comparison.

There were riots in machine rooms when they came out with the coffee/trash can, but how many years did it take them to come out with a bona fide pro desktop? And how many versions of iPhone?
