It really depends on what you need from it. I use a MOTU Fastlane USB(2x2) for 2 keyboards here(via a midi connection to the computer) and it works great(especially for all of $60).

MIDI I/O from Digi has been out of production for years now, AFAIK

I haven't personally used any of their gear, but these guys have some interesting looking stuff...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

I'm looking for something with really solid timing in and out. Am I asking for too much?

Innerclock Systems - Sync-Gen II Pro if you're looking for perfect timing. I use it with my Elektron gear, Ableton Live and the timing is tight. Sync-Gen isn't an interface but if you want perfect timing look no further.

Agreed. I use a MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV USB (8x8, MIDI patchbay, etc.) with my iMac system and properly setup between the MOTU drivers and OSX audio/midi setup it's great to work with. Heck Digidesign even has it's name on the front panel!
