Default White Noise Problem

I know Avid says they fixed the White Noise problem with CS2 but I'M trying to cut guitar tracks right now and my DAW is useless. Every single time I hit Record on a Wav. track I have one shot and the recording before I get the white noise problem. Then I have to shut down Pro Tools and reload it. I have Trashed the DAE Pref folder, I have trashed the Databases Folder and still the White Noise. I hate to say this about a Product I truly love but Pro Tools 8 recording Wav. Tracks is completely USELESS. You really can not use it. I mean what should take me 10 minutes to cut a guitar track is taking like an hour with all the reload's. This is terrible. I must be the only one having this problem? I was told the CS2 fixed it but I'M still having this problem. Avid Please Fix this I really want to use Pro Tools 8 and record my songs but this White Noise on every record on a wav. track is just terrible. Please can someone tell me how to fix this or do I need to down grade to 8.0.1 for my Pro Tools 8 to work? Its funny because at this point I'M not even Mad, I have been dealing with this White Noise Problem for so long its starting to seem like part of Pro Tools 8. But the fact is I hate the White Noise, My Recording Buddy Hates the White Noise, even my Wife Hates the White Noise. AVID Please fix your Product.

This White Noise problem is like Toyota ignoring the Accelerator sticking problem, Its like when a child closes his eyes so that the boogie man cant see them. Just because you ignore it doesn't mean its not there.

There are also many, many other possible causes for white noise, as evidenced by one of the more (in)famous threads on the DUC. Given your explanation, I would guess that one of the situations outlined in this DUC thread are more likely the culprit:

AVID, I have read all 22 pages of this Thread now and have tried everything suggested solution besides buying a new computer and Hard Drive and non of the so called Fixes work to eliminate the WHITE NOISE Problem. I just did a full guitar session dealing with the WHITE NOISE problem the whole time, So I must conclude that The WHITE NOISE Problem is just a part of AVID Pro Tools 8. well and 7.3, 7.4, 8, 8.0.1, 8.0.1cs1,8.0.3cs2. Again I know one of your Tech Support Reps are going to come on here and blame something in my system ask for a Sandra Report but dont worry, IM just going to live with it and tell anyone I record with that the WHITE NOISE is coming its just a part of this DAW. Really, IM not trying to be mean, because IM not switching DAW's Pro Tools 8 is the best DAW in the world for MIDI, VI and Mixing so IM just going to learn to live with the WHITE NOISE just like I have learned to live with my wife watching TV all evening when I would rather record music then watch Television.

Is it just happening with Quick Punch? I think (still crossing my fingers) that I fixed the problem by disabling Dynamic Transport. It seems to work now. My other work around was to use the Auto Punch, by setting up punch in/out points, and that seemed more stable. Normal record works ok too.

I had this problem in the past as well. I found that it was on sessions that I had moved from another drive. But not all of them. Larger sessions that I moved from my FW drive to my internal drive, then attempted punch recording. I got all sorts of crazy stuff (white noise, and incorrect audio parts from other tracks.) But importing the session data into a new session, and copying all files to a new folder helped. Of course CS2 seems to have fixed it for me anyway.

Keybeeetsss the only Plug-Ins I use are the AIR, McDSP and Focusrite Scarlett and TL. I learned a long time ago that free, cheap and inexpensive Plug-Ins sound like inexpensive Plug-Ins. I read the whole 22 Page Thread that I note you started a long time ago about the White Noise. Its seems to only happens when I do punch ins which I do allot since my main axe is the guitar. But nothing seems to work to stop the problem, Like I stated I have just learned to cut the track on the first or second try have 2 tracks open and bounce between the 2 tracks and move to a different section of the song when I get the White Noise.

Just gotta ask, what is your recording drive. And is it 7200 RPM. On larger sessions, this can be a deal breaker as well
