Mackie ONYX 1620 as pre?
i'm sure i'm missing something.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1620/ this mixer apparently can also have a firewire i/o card to connect to your computer. but would this work for protools? an octopre (or something like it) would connect via adat and be recognizes as 8 individual inputs -- would protools recognize the 16 channels of this mixer via firewire? my presumption is "no" -- but i'd love to be wrong on this if i'm correct (that ptle woudln't recognize the 16 channels of the mackie via fw), then what is mackie selling the fw connectivity for? how would it be used? would all 16 tracks be "summed" to a stereo mix -- and even at that, how would (could?) you connect it to ptle via fw? thanks, steve |

Re: Mackie ONYX 1620 as pre?
ProTools will only talk on Firewire to an 002 or oo2Rack. The Onyx Firewire port will allow the Onyx to be used as an audio interface by some other software, for instance, Logic.
