Default Where to put slate VTM?

OK guys im using VTM just wondered where people put it on their inserts. Do you guys put it as the very 1st one on the very last one. Where was it designed to go as its acting like a tape machine

for example i used it like this last night on a guitar track

1st was McDSP AC1
2nd was Waves SSl Channel
3rd was Slate VTM

This track then went to a guitar sub mix but i didnt put VTM on that, would you guys advise putting it here as well, if so would it be the first insert or last.

I do have VTM on my master buss as well though where it is last in the chain

I don't think there is any right or wrong!
Here is my usage:
usually on guitar bus, after Slate VCC.

On my masterbus I still prefer McDsp AC2

Sometimes I use http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/...-the-kvr-dc09/
with the FXpansion wrapper.

the sig comes from the tape into the console,
so, it would be first.
(and, in keeping with the analogue-gy
console emu's would be last.)
altho, reversed on the master strip;
console emu first,
then mastering tape last.

Depends on what you're trying to simulate.

If for example you're trying to have a band recording through a console to tape, then mix from the multitrack tape machine to a 1/4" master tape, and then turn that master tape in to a production master, using McDSP in this example you'd do the following :

All Audio Tracks

Slot 1 = AC1 (recording the musician through the "desk" pre-amp)

Slots 2 & 3 = Filterbank & Compressorbank (if you are "printing" any tone shaping to "tape")

Slot 4 = AC2 (the same machine / tape formulation on every audio track)

Slot 5 = AC1 (feeding the recorded performance off the "tape", back through the "desk")

Slots 6 & 7 = Filterbank & Compressorbank (for any additional shaping of the mix)

All Aux Tracks

Slot 1 = AC1 (returning any channel sends through the "desk" pre-amp)

Slots 2 & 3 = Filterbank & Compressorbank (for any shaping of the mults / fx returns)

Master Track

Last Slot = AC2 (only necessary if you're trying to simulate a 1/4" mater tape of the final mix)

Production Master

Slot 1 = AC1

Slots 2 - 8 = any tone / dynamic shaping plugins you require

Slot 9 = AC2

Slot 10 = Dither
