OS X 10.4.5 has been released

"Mac OS X 10.4.5 includes the following enhancements:

Internet, iDisk, and networking

* Safari no longer quits unexpectedly when deleting AOL mail messages via AOL webmail.
* Apple's IPSec VPN client now works with Cisco servers whether or not NAT is used.
* Addresses an issue in which you could not sync with an iDisk larger than 4 GB.
* Files copied across a network via Portable Home Directories are now copied as temporary files until the transfer is complete, in case the network connection is interrupted before the transfer finished.
* Addresses an issue in which some Epson printers could not successfully print via AirPort Extreme.

Other

* Allows the rotating cube effect to appear as expected on both a primary and a mirrored display, when switching users via Fast User switching.
* Addresses an issue for Mac OS X 10.4.4 in which background columns of text within the RSS Visualizer screen saver are sometimes superimposed over one another.
* Dragging a widget out of the widget bar while the desktop picture is changing (automatically, for example) no longer stops the animation on an Intel-based Mac.
* On an Intel-based Mac, Telestream Flip4Mac now installs correctly.
* Prevents the Setup Assistant from unexpectedly quitting if Kotoeri is selected as the keyboard type following an English language installation of Mac OS X.
* Allows applications that run using Rosetta on an Intel-based Mac to successfully open files that are located via an Open window's "search" field.
* Addresses an issue in which Rosetta-translated applications running on Intel-based Macs would not correctly receive Keychain notifications.
* Console no longer reports a series of "Quartz Composer QuickTime Component" messages for iMovie '06 when applying a Ken Burns clip or image.
* Addresses an issue for iMovie HD and Mac OS X 10.4.4 in which iMovie could unexpectedly quit when switching themes.
* Eliminates some potential video redraw issues when using Front Row on Intel-based Macs.
* Updated the rules for time zones and Daylight Savings Time to conform to changes in the law for the United States, Australia, and other locations, for 2006 and later.
* Addresses a potential issue that could cause the system process "configd" to unexpectedly stall.
* Addresses an issue when viewing streaming media behind a firewall on Intel Macs.

The new release is a 6.4 MB download in delta (10.4.4 to 10.4.5), standard form."




It doesn't look like any of the CoreAudio stuff got messed with, but just the same, I'm staying at 10.4.3 with my system. YMMV of course.

Unfortunately, for those of with many disk based auths, it's not so simple...

This alone should should pressure people to adopt iLok or other dongle technologies. There is no reason to restrict a user to a single machine -- software auths should be portable, on physical keys, such as dongles.

Especially IK Multimedia. 3 auths to start with, if you use those you can request 3 more, then what? Re-buy a plug-in that you already purchased once, just for a couple of more auths! Anyone have any idea if IK will implement a dongle based authorization for Amplitube 2?

Then again though, how many "dongles" and "USB keys" can we have hanging around and dangling off our hubs cluttering up stuff.
Personally I like neither. I feel a new invention needs to happen that allows them to force the security they need, BUT NOT clutter up our lives at that expense.

I mean if you add up your iLok, then if you also have Logic, your Logic Dongle, then if you want these other plugs you are talking about with their damn dongles, its like MAN,,,, where will it stop ?? Soon we will need 8 hubs with 8 usb expansions on each one just to turn on a recording session !! -- LOL -- I'm cool off that.

I don't mind 1 master USB key for EVERY authorization I need in the WORLD. Like if it were iLok, then ALL companies offering dongle keys would have to move their licenses to iLok for us, I mean like Logic types included !! and ditch their stupid dongle - or whatever. Just make it so iLok held EVERYTHING we need. Some sort of a "License STANDARD"... after a while it will just be "the way it is". And all companies will know to do it or not make a product !! ha ha. Maybe you could put your drivers "license" and marriage "license" on it too !!! J/K lol --

I mean it sounds like a monopoly, BUT it is the ONE that sounds good, and would be to our benifit. MAYBE ??? What do you all think ?

Just make it so iLok held EVERYTHING we need. Some sort of a "License STANDARD"... after a while it will just be "the way it is". And all companies will know to do it or not make a product !!

That would be good; however, there should be more robust dongle hardware available before that can be expected to happen. I hate plastic, and even more so when it contains licenses worth multiple thousands of dollars. That said, I wouldn't mind paying $100 or $200 for an iLok dongle that would be guaranteed to survive some normal physical abuse, and again, I wouldn't mind if they dropped the license card thingy -- internet activation all the way, as it is the card reader that makes the plastic iLok key fragile.

(Then there's naturally the issue about losing the key, but there's nothing iLok can do about it. Thank God we have insurance companies...)
