Default Possible to turn individual midi notes off?

Hi all!

I thought there was a way to turn off/on individual midi notes, so that you can play back a midi track and not hear the specific notes that you turned off. Can anyone tell me if this can be done? And how?

Thanks!

The short answer for this is no, there's currently no MIDI Mute Note and frankly this is long over due!

Just change the velocity of that note to 0...Or am I getting this wrong?

Oh well that's a surprise, but thanks, now I can stop searching for the answer. Yep I guess I'll just lower the volume all the way down for each note I want to mute. Thanks for your help!

If you separate the midi region so that the target notes are on their own region, then you can mute these. However, this really only works for mono programed lines. Or, at least, sections that play one note at a time (i.e you cannot use this to mute individual notes within a chord).

Another possible work-around (if you want to keep the original midi data) is to make a copy and edit that (destructively).

No, I believe you are correct, velocity-zero is Note Off, but try that with Pro Tools?

dj, Phil's workaround is probably the best out of a lacking situation to say the least.

thanks, yeah I just realized velocity all the way down is not off - you can still hear the note at a low volume, Weird, I would never have thought this would be the case with PT 7. I guess i'll duplicate the track & edit like that. Thanks for your advice peeps!
