Allan, what other plug-ins do you consider must have ? Could you maybe post a list of 5 "must haves'", 5 " favorites"

But what gets me is the "unless otherwise stated in a Read Me" statement. So is he saying that it HAS been done before, where there actually WAS a difference ?? Or it maybe WILL happen for a plug in oneday?? I wonder....

And I also wonder about other companies plug ins now, and what they would say about theirs....

So as he said NO,,,, he did say UNLESS .... So it does happen I guess.....

Interesting......

DAMN !!!!! I never read them "Read Me's" --Guess I gotta start
Yes - there has been a difference in the past - specifically TC's native reverb ( although not rtas ), and their megaverb. The algorithm was approximately 8 times the size ( and required about 4 times the processing power ) according to the guys who wrote it.
It's true that some companies use identical algorithms for RTAS and TDM - I have confirmed that Sony do ( with the exception of GML ). I stand corrected on this point.

After looking at the Smack screenshot and then glancing over my left shoulder at the Distressor in my rack, I cannot answer "no" to the following question:

Is Smack just a vintage-looking plug-in model of the Distressor?

Anyone else?

Absolutely. Attack and Release controls in numbers from 1 to 10, not in milliseconds, distortion controls, Detector circuit, and most of all, their nuke is Digi's Smack!

I hate to open this can of worms, but here goes...

I was told several years ago by tech support at Waves that the TDM versions of their plugs sounded better than the RTAS versions because TDM uses 48 bit fixed point processing while RTAS uses 32 bit floating point processing.

Fire away!

Its been opened many many times before on other threads such as here or here

Do a search and you'll find many more. Lets not go on too much of a tangent on this thread.

Well if we leave out the 24bit fixed -VS-32bit floating ordeal, then there should be no tangent starting here.

I think what davip was MAINLY trying to get across was the fact that he WAS told by a professional at Waves (he he I know,, well they are suppose to be professionals anyway ) that TDM sounds better than RTAS with WAVES PLUG INS -- And since that topic has been brushed across earlier on this thread, then I do not feel davip was outta place for his post....

But the area is still grim -- Maybe with Waves plug ins that is the case, and with other manufacturers it is not ?? Who knows...
Just remember that Bobby Lombardi posted on this thread that as far as DIGI is concerned "unless other wise stated" TDM and RTAS has no sonic difference. But he can only speak on Digi, and went further to say "unless otherwise stated"....
