Default Are you stable?

So, I am currently running OS X 10.5.8 with 7.4.2. Won't move to PT8 until my current project is complete(although I'm dying to play with it. So I'll probably install it on a spare drive a just mess around with it since it's just sitting here). Until recently, I was running OS X 10.4.11 with 7.4. and entirely stable. No hiccups. The same is now true with Leopard and 7.4.2.

Since I see so many folks having issues I'm just wondering, how many folks are stable right now? Chime in if you're good in 7.4.2. or your current version of 8...

Am I stable? kinda personal
Anyway, I think you are taking it all in the correct spirit. Never make changes during a project, unless you have a backup plan. I ran 7.4 on Tiger and 8 on Leopard with 2 drives and both worked very nicely. No problems on my last several PC setups either(but I always have that backup by rotating system drives).

I have rock solid stability with 10.5.8osx and 8.0.1 pt (now with the latest cs update).
But I am in the middle of some sessions, never upgrade, only after the fact, when even possible recalls are done.

As far as pro tools goes, yes! I am running 8.01cs1 and so far everything is stable except for Motu Symphonic taking all my computers resources (my assumption of course).

aside from the clocking reset (keeps defaulting to internal...which the latest cs still hasn't fixed) I've had no issues- once in a while I'll get an error, but it's uncommon, and often associated with Amplitube2 (If I try and use any of the "rack" gear it immediately crashes, or make too many adjustments during playback, etc... IK has not responded to my "wuz up with this?" e-mail-

which makes the odds of buying any future products from them poor to nil

I may concur with your assumption. I'm using MOTU Electric Keys, and it seems to be a poorly resourced program. It uses far more power than anything else I'm running. MOTU hasn't really gotten their VI game together yet...
