Garbled Audio in PT12?
I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running OSX Yosemite 10.10.5. Many times when I boot up or create a new session, the audio is very distorted. I checked my audio interface drivers and they are up to date. I usually have to close the session and reopen it. That doesn't always work either. Any suggestions?
108 views and nobody has any suggestions?

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
seems no one looks at this before posting or buying computers anymore ... just Google "Avid Compatibility" ..
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...tibility-Chart 10.10.5 is not Qualified Yet !!! it works for some but not for others .. have you taken all the needed steps to make sure your system is Pro Tools Configured ??

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
Not sure what you mean, but the computer I have meets or exceeds the recommended specs for Pro Tools 12. I'm not going to go to a lot of trouble to get it to work, as Logic X is my go-to DAW, but I used PT12 because others send me stuff to mix on it.

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
And running PT12 with 4GB ram is mot a good idea even if Logic works, doesn't mean PT will work as they are Worlds apart.
Are you recording to a secondary hard drive and if so, what model? Whats your hard drive in the MBP? 5400rpm or 7200 rpm or SSD?

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
I don't use virtual instruments. I only mix music. 4GB of RAM has always suited my needs. I had no problems with PT9, which I know is a different beast. I've been very disappointed in PT12 so far, considering how much the thing costs. I guess I need to rethink my mixing.

And you still haven't answered the question Chris asked: are you recording to a separate drive from the system drive? And if you are what are the specs? Is it a green drive? Do you let your drives sleep? Both of those are strict no-nos. PT is a picky beast and just because it works for Logic doesn't mean it'll work for PT. |

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
I do record to an external hard drive. I'm pretty sure it's a 5400rpm speed. It's 750GB in size. I ordered a 16GB RAM package earlier, so I'll see if installing that makes a difference. Thanks. I know I need a faster HDD too. Budget is tight at the moment.

Re: Garbled Audio in PT12?
Well I can almost say with 100% confidence that your issues are from having 4GB ram and only a 5400rpm drive will kill whatever you try to do in PT for sure.
The garbled audio is what would happen when these important pieces of audio gear is underpowered. Installing the 16GB ram will not make a difference unless you have HD PT and can use Disc Cache so the only thing that will help you here is a 7200rpm hard drive in a USB3 chassi, not USB2 as that will be the same problem as you have now. Also do make sure you do NOT buy a Fusion drive, Green drive, Blue drive as these are power saving units that will mess it up even more than now. What is your internal drive? Is that also 5400rpm? If that is a Yes then nothing you do or purchase will make any difference until you swap out the recording drive to a faster one and if that doesn't help then your internal drive is another elephant in the room. Pro Tools won't work unless everything is what it needs, lot of people say "but it works with Logic and Ciubase" etc and you can't compare PT with anything on the market. Hope you get this sorted but if i were you i would return the ram and get a faster drive and maybe buy 8GB for now.
