Default outputting computer audio through monitors

I am unable to figure this out. I found this answer in another forum:

Just set the Mbox 2 as your default sound device in Control Panel, Sounds & Audio Devices.
However you will not be able to use other audio programs if you have ProTools running as it has exclusive use of the Mbox 2, but you will be able to audition audio files from the Workspace window. You may also need to download the MME Helper program that allows you to "add" programs to a defined list that your Mbox 2 can use in Windows.

Here is the issue...how do you do this?? I am unable to find how to find or how to get the Mbox to show up in the sound device control panel

i am running vista 64 bit by the way

Thank you in advance for the help i will receive.

There is no Digi Wave driver for Vista yet... only XP.
So you will not be able to use your Mbox 2 directly as a Windows sound device.
The MMEHelper is designed to work with a Digi Wave driver... as such, it is useless in Vista.
The most common workaround is to leave all system audio assigned to your onboard sound card and physically patch that into your 002 alt inputs.

As for your 64bit operating system.
Understand fully, you are going to be a beta tester. (There are others here but they are well aware that they are experimenting with the bleeding edge).

PTLE is written to be used with 32 bit operating systems.
64 bit is not supported or recommended by Digidesign.

Thank you very much for that information. I would like to be a beta tester..i have no problems with that.

I would like to go on record and say that since release of PT 8 there have been absolutely NO issues with my software runin' on my 64 bit Vista system.. No glitches no hangups it is very fast.

I have been using PT 8 everyday for around 8 hours a day since i upgraded.

Outstanding... welcome to the bleeding edge. :)

One more comment about the Wave driver issue... a rewrite has been promised by Digi and is anxiously awaited.

Since you are having success with your 64 bit OS, how about posting a Sandra report or at least a detailed parts list for others. My next build will be the i7 and I will try XP 64bit and see if I can get that working with my 003 as some others have. BTW, its great to hear a success story in the midst of all the whining. Kudos to you!

BTW, if you really want to play non-protools sounds thru your monitors(and who can blame you?), a monitor/source selector comes in very handy. Some to look at are; Samson C-Control(cheapest at $100), Mackie Big Knob(better at around $350) and Presonus Central Station(best at under $500) which is what I use. I can select between my protools interface via analog OR digital, the motherboard sound card via optical SPDIF, a CD player and the headphone out of my Motif so I can hear the keyboard without firing up protools(or the computer for that matter).
