Which Hard Drive for External Enclosure?
I need to get a hard drive for an external enclsosure, and I was wondering what brands people recommend. I was thinking either Seagate or Western Digital, between 160 and 250 gigs with an 8 MB buffer, and an IDE interface.
This is the external enclosure I am looking at: Macally PHR-100AC External Enclosure Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Re: Which Hard Drive for External Enclosure?
You might want to reconsider that case; it does not have the Oxford 911 bridge chipset recommended by Digidesign. It uses the initio.
You should consider the Bytecc 720F, it's cheaper and compatible. As for hard drives, there is much debate. I use 4 different brands of drive for sessions; Seagate, WD, Maxtor, Hitachi. No problems with any of them.

Re: Which Hard Drive for External Enclosure?
Ditto on going with the other case. I like all those drives EXCEPT one. Stay away from the Hitachi. They made all the IBM Deskstar drives and they were so much trouble that IBM quit selling them. BestBuy has a WD 250gig on sale for $79.

Re: Which Hard Drive for External Enclosure?
The only reason I liked the other case was because it has Firewire and USB, and I'm going to mainly be using this drive to transfer sessions back and forth between my setup and the studio where I go to school. However, I know I can use Firewire with the G4 at school, and also with my computer. So I guess there's really no need for USB also because pretty much any computer I would be using would definitely have firewire.
So I think I'll go with the Bytecc enclosure, and probably that hard drive from best buy. Thanks everyone!

Re: Which Hard Drive for External Enclosure?
Ok....now is there anything special I need to know about making this drive both Mac and Windows compatible? I'm pretty sure it has to be FAT32 to work on both, but doesn't FAT32 only allow up to like 40 gigs per partition?
