Separate Nudge Tool from Link Timeline-Edit Selection?

Hello, Avid Group...

I need to be able to use the nudge tool and not have to reset my playhead start each time I check my work. It really is the most annoying thing that this tool won't work without the Edit Timeline and Selection option being checked, so that playback begins at the note I last edited. I need to be able to hear my correction in context, at a preset place in the section, but to do that I have to reset it each time I edit a note. Working on a 12-minute midi piano piece, it's a serious drain on my workflow, aside from just being dumb.

Is there a workaround for this?

Not quite following your workflow but you can nudge when Link Timeline and Edit Selection is turned off by using the + - keys on the numpad. You might also take a look at Dynamic Transport.

Maybe I am not completely understanding your workflow but...why not just set a pre/post roll? 1 or 2 bars before your cursor/selection? Then you could leave your selection (and its nudgability) as is, and hear your changes in context.

its2loud: I often wish I had the full Mac keyboard with num pad, but am using the short version. I'll check out the Dynamic Transport thing, see what comes up.

devinemke: Yeah, the pre-roll is about the only real way around it, and I've been using that. It's just yet another of the many quirks inherent to PT that has been an annoyance to users since I first started with it back in 2008, and has never been addressed... nor, like the rest, never likely to be.
