Default Digital clock

If you are recording into 001 using both the SPDIF inputs and the ADAT optical inputs, which digital signal becomes the master clock? Do you need to clock the two different converters? Will it work? Which format would be more stable, SPDIF or ADAT optical? Why no word clock in on the 001?
