Default System configuration help

I have a mac trashcan, 10.10.5, protools 12.3.1, a blackmagic studio 2 card hooked up thru a sonnet chassis thunderbolt 2. Here's my issue. I can not select the blackmagic audio out and get playback. The only way of achieving sound out through the card is to add it to the protools aggregate I/O. The only problem is that the playback is now out of sync or very high latency and the only way to get it to be in sync or low latency is to select the protools aggregate I/O as my sound out in the system preferences pane. Am I missing something? I have attached a screen shot. I feel like I should be able to select the blackmagic audio in my hardware setup and then in my playback engine and I should be right as rain....Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I am current with my blackmagic drivers, but have been having this problem since I bought protools at ver 10....

1st - if it is working without Latency or being out of Sync then just use the Aggregate - why fight it .. there is nothing wrong with the Aggregate

other things to try:

have you tried without the Drift Compensation Checked ?? have you tried setting your MAC to built-in so that the BlackMagic will be free for PT to use ??

just a couple quick thoughts ..

Question Re: System configuration help

Does the Blackmagic have any video inputs? If so, does the situation improve if you have a valid video input signal connected?

I see, like it needs an External Sync Ref (ie: blackburst or any qualified video signal) ... i may have an old BlackBurst Generator laying around if it turns out you need one ...

John,
I have the system hooked up to tri-level sync. I have also done the drift compensation and setting the mac to internal. I am technically fine with it working this way with the aggregate, its just that I'd like to have all system sounds coming out of my multimedia speakers and the protools/Avid/Premiere sounds coming out of my tannoys via the BM card (currently the only one in the set not working is the protools). It sounds so simple, but it is annoying that I cant just set my hardware device to BM and move on with it....
Thanks for the help.

+1

I think it is an issue with the BM card rather than OSX or PT.

If I remember correctly they need to be fed a video signal at their input in order to make their audio outs available.
