Recording Latency Configuration For PT11/Antelope Zen
Hello,
I’ve recently switched from Logic to Pro Tools 11 and am having trouble configuring things to properly handle interface latency while recording. I’m using an Antelope Zen interface and when I use Logic the interface latency is automatically calculated, displayed and compensated but I can’t figure this out in PT11. I’ve checked out the PT11 Reference Guide but only see info pertaining to the HD hardware. Is automatic compensation available for use with 3rd party interfaces? I'm running this on a Mac with OS 10.8.5 Duane |

Pro Tools should compensate for recording latency as accurately as the input and output latencies are reported by the interface. It's pretty easy to check that - I'll provide a link to a thread explaining how to do so if you wish.

Amack, if you could send along the extra info that would be great.
Craig, once it's figured can you input the latency number so that Pro Tools automatically offsets all recorded tracks? D |

Please let me know if you have any questions and how it works out for you:
If it seems a little out of place, its because somebody moved it (it was originally a separate thread as you can see from the subject line at the top) http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...21#post2268821 |

Re: Recording Latency Configuration For PT11/Antelope Zen
Thanks for that Amack. I'll need a bit of time to chew on it but I have one more question in the meantime. My interface reports the latency when I'm using Logic but when I use PT the recorded tracks are substantially late so it doesn't seem like any latency info is being processed. Once I follow the steps in your link to make sure I have an accurate measurement is there an additional configuration step I need to do in PT to get the latency automatically compensated?

Nope, but you can try voting to hopefully help get it implemented in Pro Tools! http://protools.ideascale.com/a/dtd/...ay/124553-3779

Ahhh I'm starting to see the picture now...So how do you deal with the latency if it's incorrectly reported? Do you actually have to shift each recorded track manually to compensate?

1. clean open session (no plugins). drop in a snare on a track. 2. Connect your output to input, record that snare to another track. measure the difference in samples. 3. enter samples difference in "setup" window. Now, I have never owned PT Vanilla, so I do not know if Vanilla has this option in setup window. If option is not available in Vanilla, my advice would be to just go back to Logic and not get on this crippled train of Vanilla. Rent monthly when needed for transfers. |
