Video resolution question
Can someone put me straight on the Video resolution in PT10
- Can you output 1024X576 video from PT??? I use a Blackmagic Intensity Pro for HDMI video output into a Sony Bravia TV. Im sure I could use 1024X576 without missing any of the pictues but the other day I noticed that what I was seeing on my TV was cropped compared to what I was seeing on the Video window in Pro Tools. I don't know if didn't realise this before or if I have changed a setting by mistake. I have found very little information with regards to the video specs in PT10. Any ideas? Cheers |

Re: Video resolution question
I use 1920X1080 and I have the Intensity card, I have the $1000 card not the $200 but in the past I also used the Intensity Pro (the cheaper card) with PT 9 at the same resolution. I use QT Pro-Res codec.

Re: Video resolution question
You should use resolutions supported by the Intensity card and the Sony Bravia TV. Typical resolutions are 1920x1080, 1280x720, 720x480(NTSC), 720x576(PAL).
Quicktime player and the Video window in Pro Tools can scale to other sizes. |

Re: Video resolution question
it's not really lame to not support a non-standard video resolution. This only exists because of people outputting square pixels and being lazy/not knowing what they're doing.
You will never see a video format, camera or delivery spec mentioning this resolution. |

And as to the filmakers being lazy or ignorant, you REALLY don't know what you are talking about. These are sophisticated animators doing cutting edge start-of-the-art stuff and doing the work assembly edits in square pixels. Square pixel in Pal animation land is pretty common.

Re: Video resolution question
I know lots of people use it, that doesn't make it an official video resolution. Besides, if they actually knew what they were doing, they would make it 1050 x 576. Adobe has a lot of information on this issue. Before you accuse me of not knowing what I'm talking about again - http://www.mikeafford.com/blog/2009/...ts-cs4-vs-cs3/
The long and short of it is 1024x576 is fine if going to 1280x720 (unlikely) at a later stage, but if it's going to end up at 720x576 for SD broadcast it will end up slightly stretched. 1050x576 solves this. The same would happen obviously when viewing in post. and before you say "but 1050 x 576 isn't 16x9" - yes, I know. |

Re: Video resolution question
*sigh*
Film shot and finalled at 2K. 2K Raw 16:9 = 2048 x 1152 pixels 1K Raw 16:9 = 1024 x 576 pixels. There might even be a relationship of a 2 between the dimensions of 1K and 2K, but I was told there would be no math in this forum. Some people work in 1K before they finish so the files are manageable. In fact, I worked with 1K's on a film recently that was natively done and finished at 4K.

If you're talking about video resolutions, of course there's going to be maths involved. |
