Default Pro Tools Carbon with Standard and HDX?

Having seen the unveiling, I've been wondering how you're supposed to use dsp plugins when carbon comes with PT standard while dsp is only supported by Ultimate?

I think the implication was pretty obvious... and it's been clarified in interviews and reviews. Carbon provides hybrid DSP for Pro Tools standard, you don't need Ultimate. A good move for project studios etc. where folks might bring in their own computers. They just need Pro Tools 2020.11, wether standard or ultimate.

Ah gotcha, well they should add this to their comparison chart although I personally find the pricing of Ultimate outdated and too high and I now get away with Standard instead of having to pay an absurdly high amount every year to keep my ultimate up to date.

Thanks, so it might be an option for me nonetheless because I've dropped ultimate 2 years ago in favor of Standard with more or less better update pricing and most projects not exceeding my track count anyways.

Yeah I think that the version included is capable of using dsp otherwise it would be pretty useless to include a non HD version.

I can ask support and get back with a more specific info.

That'd be nice.

Hi All,

Just to confirm, Carbon works with both Pro Tools (Standard) and Pro Tools | Ultimate. Pro Tools (Standard) is what's included with the product.

Here's some more detail on the Pro Tools software options when you register a Carbon unit. From post #32 here.

New PT user:
You use the included 1-year PT Standard subscription. This includes all Avid plugins and HEAT. If you choose to renew at the end of the term, you will pay the regular annual subscription price of $299 (paid up front).

Existing PT user on subscription:
You can choose to keep your subscription and use it on a separate system, and use the included 1-year PT Standard subscription. OR you can extend the terms of your existing subscription for 1 year (cool thing about that option is that you can do this regardless of your current flavor: PT Standard or PT Ultimate)

Existing PT perpetual user on a current support and update plan:
You can choose to keep your license and plan, and use it on a separate system, and use the included 1-year PT Standard subscription. OR you can extend the terms of your support plan for 1 year (cool thing about that option is that you can do this regardless of your current flavor: PT Standard or PT Ultimate)

All users who choose the included subscription with "perpetual parachute":
Renewal will be at the Pro Tools standard price ($299 per year paid up front). If you choose NOT to renew, your license becomes perpetual (no upgrades though) and as a result you lose the Avid Complete plugin bundle (you only keep the plugins included with the standard perpetual license). You can keep that going for however long you like, and when you're ready to get back on track for new features, get the complete plugin bundle, tech support and OS compatibility, just hop back on to subscription

Worth noting that the additional plugins from McDSP, Plugin Alliance, Native Instruments, UVI, Arturia and Embody are perpetual license, so you get to keep those.

Cool. Plan is to extend my current support plan with Carbon, which expires in 2022. I'd get all of the included "bonus" plugins AND the Complete Avid collection?

But not the complete Avid plugins with HEAT?
