Default Opening old sessions in PT12

Yes, that old topic again, but as new apps are released that might make this process easier it seems worth asking again.

So, sessions from 2006-ish, with SDII audio files. Not surprisingly, if I try to open them with PT12 the audio files won't import and the MIDI is missing. I'd like to try opening them with PT10 -- maybe that would help ease the process -- but I can't get that to open at the moment.

Without getting deeper into the details right now I'll just ask: does anyone have a solid way for accessing PT9 (and earlier) sessions with today's tools?

I have over a thousand of these and would like to be able to revive them, to some degree.

PT10 is last to open SD2, that is why PT10 is included in perpetual license bundle

I have a 2020 Ultimate/10.3.8 co-install on Windows 10, even though Avid told me that 10.xxx is not “Windows 10 compatible.” It works just fine. I ran 12.4\10.3 on Win 10 before updating to 2020 as well. Only downside is PT 10 won’t see Thunderbolt, so I have to use my backup Focusrite as the audio engine when running PT 10.

There are ways to convert SDII to WAV. That part's easy enough. I'm hoping for a solution which allows me to force PT, and ideally PT12, to reference, and use, those converted audio files instead of me having to manually add them to the session (a la the Pro Tools Expert methods).

I do know that opening PT10 is helpful (tho, as mentioned, I'm having trouble getting it to open), but this is still a cumbersome process. One I've been aware of, however. What I was hoping for was some new methodology and/or tool which could make this easier. I'm gathering that that's not the case.

when I had my Nashville studio, I had an old G4 and Mbox 2 Pro in the closet so I could open and convert older SD II sessions. Rumor has it that the next PT update might actually open/convert SD II(as long as you're on a Mac). I'm not sure a Windows rig can do anything with SD II files

Yes you've mentioned having trouble getting PT10 to open but you domn't mention what the problem is. Maybe if you did we could help.

I've aways had trouble designating the system disk that has protools 10. And when switching back to my current protools startup disk it sometimes takes a few tries. So its annoying.
