Default Unable to locate Digidesign Hardware

I am having a problem with my 002r being seen as a device by my computer(s). My Sandra print out is posted in the profile forum. What is happening is the unit is powering up and the lights are coming on (sample rate, mute, 1394 in back), but windows is not seeing the device in order for me to get the driver installed.

I have tried 2 different computers and 3 different firewire cards, including the SIIG, an Adaptec, and a generic. I have tried the boot.ini trick, tried WinXP Pro SP1 and SP2, turned off and on the onboard NIC, Audio, SATA, and every non-essential windows component. There is nothing in the systray or in msconfig running that could be blocking the 002r as I have installed no other programs besides Winrar, Sandra, and Quicktime. The “installing device drivers” box just isn’t appearing so I can get the driver installed. When I launch either PTLE 6.7 or 6.9 I get a message that says “Unable to locate Digidesign Hardware”.

My hardware is all listed as supported components, the chipset is the K8T800 Pro. I cant understand what could be the problem.

It's Probably the power harness , you will have to call up Digi Tech Support and have them send you a new power harness

Yep, sounds like the power harness issue. If you're brave, you can open up the unit and jiggle the power harness connectons. This worked for me. Be careful however as one other poster did this and possibly damaged his firewire connector. Still you need to contact Digidesign.

This sucks because my 002r was broken new out of the box. So much for quality workmanship, do they test these things?

I called Digi on friday and the tech said he would "research" my problem because the "power harness" issue had been fixed on new units with my particular serial number. The whole time I was thinking the harness was pooched. No sense in getting my panties in a wad over it, its just sort of disheartening after spending $1200.

I would be more inclined to complain to the place you where you got it. As digi said, all of the newly manufactured units have this problem fixed, so wherever you got it from is selling NOS if you got a brand new unit with a power harness problem.

Sweetwater has one of the best customer services reputations on the business. Call them on Monday. It could be that something came loose in shipping (like a connection on the power harness). Given the volume of 002R's Sweetwater sells, I doubt it is "New Old Stock." I'm sure you will be taken care of.
