Default Can't install 8.03 on win7

Hi Guys

I am having some trouble with my new setup.

I had iMac before and PT 7.3 on a disc, upgraded to 8.0 online som time ago, and therefor I have downloaded PT 8.0 from my account for windows, anything wrong with that?

I have done all the tweaks from the Getting Started Guide, and also alot of those from the i7 sticky..

I had som trouble installing it, but it seemes to be installed now, or at least i can open PT. I know i have to update to 8.03 but windows won't allow me, when i try it says that it can't find an installed 8.0, which is weird because it is installed and i can open it, allthough the sound i am getting out of it is very weird and bad..

I also had some dae 6006 errors, but not anymore it seems..

I am currently using mbox2 mini, win7 ultimate 64x, latest beta drivers for Protools and win7 64x and this hardware:

ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
Intel Core i7 920 2.66 GHz
CoolerMaster Silent Pro M700
GeForce With CUDA GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 (latest drivers)
WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB
WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB
Sony BEC Optiarc AD-7200S DVD+-RW
3x2048MB Performance Memory A-Data 1333MHz
Chieftec cx-01b-b-sl cabinet

does anyone know what to do??

Regards

I had no luck with PT 8 on Win 7 x64. No end of problems. I have had some success on Win 7 32bit. Unfortunately, I'm getting clicks and pops no matter what buffer size I use.

I've used another DAW for years but I will admit being new to PT and really struggling right now.

Good luck,

-Rich

You guys are struggling because it's a PUBLIC BETA version for Win 7 64-bit. Use a tried and true OS like XP 32-bit and you should be fine. I for one have no time or intention to be a beta tester.

I also tried XP SP3, Vista 32 and Vista 64 as well (all clean installs). No luck. In fact, Vista was a complete no-go and XP stuttered constantly. It was so jerky as to be unusable.
Win 7 32 works fairly well but for a few clicks and pops. I will admit I'm new to PT so I have a lot to learn.

Each of you should be on your own thread and post a Sandra report on your system at the beginning of that thread so people can help you sort out your issues. Windows7 32 and 64 can be made to work with Pro Tools if you are willing to do whatever modifications and experimentations that maybecome necessary to run 8.0.3/4b. It took me over a month on my test rig and over $600. to get it running smoothly, and that was on a system that ran PT 8.0.1 on XP flawlessly. I don’t recommend this if you only have one system. XP 32 with 8.0.1 is still the best bet.

Hey dudes, PT 8.0.1 works perfect for me on windows 7 x64. I installed 8.03 update anda the new drivers and that was a scam! the sound of my electric guitar was terrible. I had to reinstall the 8.0.1 version and now it works perfect for me again.

Don't try 8.0.3

I appreciate your post and accept it as true. I spent well over 6 months in the build of my DAW for Cubase. I felt like I was navigating shark-infested waters. But after careful study of each individual hardware component and the way all the components worked together, I came up with a bullet-proof system.
I've decided to take a look at PT primarily becauseof the excellent mixer functionality. I bought an MBox 2 mini only as a starter kit to see if this is really the direction I want to go.
I completely understand that my inability to get PT to run on any of the operating systems I mentioned in no way speakes to whether PT can run on those systems, only that it did not run on MY rig with those systems.

To the OP: Don't mean to hijack your thread. I suspect posting a Sandra report would allow the more experienced here to offer you better help than I have.

Good luck!

-Rich
