7,500+ Customers for AAX-DSP

Avid announced today that 7,500 HDX systems have been sold to date.

To my knowledge, this is the first mention of HDX system sales.

Is this enough to get Waves to change their AAX-DSP stance? Would other developers jump on AAX-DSP with the knowledge that they have 7,500+ potential customers with more to come?

What would a developer do when he compares it to far, far more native users .... most of them using VST as plugin format on windows or on mac as platform with a lot of DAW's, not RTAS or AAX. When you have a look at the last years .... RTAS / TDM was mostly present ... but VST every time. And now ... 7500 AAX DSP exclusive customers .. and waves wants the sell it's own solution (sound grid) ... I would say: sorry folks.

If that is a nationwide number, that's not really much. Edit I just read the link. It's actually a worldwide figure. Wow! Seem to still be off to a slow start.

Interesting. Considering that HDN systems are not included in this number and that HDX systems are targeted for high end recording studios and film post facilities, the 7,500 number is actually more than I expected.

Way more than I would have expected.

Considering SSL has sold approx 5000 large format consoles in its entire history.

And I believe Waves just announced that it sold its 1,000th soundgrid server... so I would say 7500 is impressive. I'm still in the sidelines on HDX... need to see more plugins supported first.

You really compare large format, high end SSL consoles with HDX? Come on ... an SSL console is self-contained mix system, timeless, usable without a pc, usable for 10, 15, 20 years or more ... and an HDX system? No, sorry. not really a valid comparsion for my taste

Somewhat valid if your consider the quantity of studios likely to have Pro Tools with their consoles. Not likely a comparison to the hardware.

In this economy and with the state of the industry being what it is; I think this is a great number. I'm very encouraged.
