Default 6085 and 6088 Errors - Just Started - Sandra Report Included

I just started getting these errors and I can't even get through a song. Seems to happen during playback and not as often during recording.

I've tried changing the buffer and keeps happening.

The only thing different is now I'm using a Kensingyon Expert Mouse and an external keybord on my laptop.

It's a small session. 5 audio tracks with an aux track for reverb and the other tracks send to this track.

I have followed all of the recommendation's in trouble shooting.

SiSoftware Sandra

The problem I see is that you only have one hard drive. Protools really is designed to use a physically separate drive for the audio. Using you system drive for Protools is not recommended and is most likely the cause of your troubles. Perhaps you didn'y have this before by chance. Chances are that it can't keep up with the demands of Protools anymore. USB drives are not recommended as they can not keep up the sustained data transfer rate. In the case of notebooks, an external Firewire drive (7200 RPM minimum) is required.

Actually I have 2 external hard drives. One is via firewire for Pro tools and the other is via USB2 for Reason. I'm not sure why it doesn't show on the report. I have everything running.

I tried a M6811 and couldn't get it to work. I worked on it for months and months and bought all sorts of cardbus adaptors, sent it back to emachines, harddrives, reinstalled everything, disabled everything.

I gave it to my wife to play games on.

I bought a MacBook pro and I'm so happy. No errors. Wish I had a fix for you but there is something in the M6811 that = 6811's, 6088's etc.

I really can't afford to buy a new system right now. What did your MacBook Pro run you and what were the specs on it?

Are these suppose to be out performing the desktops now?

6085 and 6088 usually indicated a firewire bus communication error.

You say the only things that changed between when it was working and when it stopped was adding the new mouse and keyboard? Is the keyboard wired or wireless? Have you tried disconnecting them to see if the problems still occur?

How many firewire ports does the computer have and how to do you have the 002 and firewire drive connected, exactly?

I went for the MacBook pro and it was about 2K refurbished. The basic MacBook should work to. I just liked that the Pro had a FW 400 and a FW 800 port, so I could run the external drive and the 003 on its own port. It was effortless to get running.

I don't know how many verbs / tracks it will run but check on the Mac side, someone over there will know.

DigiTech support is right, kinda. Can you go back to a previous configuration and will that work? I know that a few people were able to get the M6811's to run, I just never never could. That was what was so frustrating for me. (Search my past posts) I think there is something in the FW chipset that prevents them from working with PT. I blame Digi for that. PT should't be so damn fussy.

The keyboard and mouse are wired. I did disconect them and even uninstalled the software for the mouse. Issue remained.

I then tested another session and the issue was not there. So this made me think there must be something unique to this session. I started by removing plug-ins. Still had issues.

Next I checked see if maybe I had stored the session on my system drive and not the external drive. In doing so I discovered the session was on the external drive but some of the audio files were in a different folder (template session)than the actual session. So I moved the files to the current session and it resolved the main errors and everything is now working like it did before. Which is good. How can I prevent this when starting from a template?

However, I do still get some -6085 errors, although nowhere near the amount I experienced when raising this issue. I changed the DAE buffer to Level 4 and that helps some.

I have one firewire port. I connect my external hard drive to this port and my -002R to this hard drive. I connect another hard drive I use for Reason to a seperate USB2 port. I started doing this after I experienced issues when daisy chaining the 2 drives to the -002R and noticed and improvment. Also, my 2nd drive was not being recognized.

I hope you may have some advice to improve the sittuation? It's not as bad as it was but I did have the error twice in 7 minutes and had to restart the recording of a session.

Thanks.

So, does this still just happen in the one session, or other sessions as well?

It's very strange that moving audio files on the drive would change the frequency of errors. My first thought was fragmentation, but that shouldn't be the case given how much free space you have on all your drives. I wonder if these audio files may be corrupted somehow.

You could try doing a 'Save Session As' to a new location on the drive, making sure to choose the option to copy all audio files, then close the current session and open the newly saved one to see if you still get the errors.

I'll have to experiment with some other session's to see how it's acting. I know last night I was mixing the session and had the error again during the mix and again during bounce to disk. I again changed the DAE buffer to level 4 and it allowed me to finish.

I wouldn't think they wouild be corrupt only because the session was a day or 2 old. Not that this means they couldn't be.

I'll try your suggestion and test some other sessions and reply back.
