Need:

1. good quality/variety of sounds/patterns/loops
2. easy construction loops/patterns
3. isolate each drum sound to it's own track
4. able to change kits/sounds on the fly

Reason with Reason Drumkit Refill?
How would I get each track from redrum to PT7? Each channel out from Redrum to the Reason mixer? Then what? Thank.

When using reason and the drum kits refill for drums in pro tools:
Start a reason session in rewire mode on up to 64 aux tracks(depending on how many channels you need).
Open just the devices that you need in reason. (You will not need to use a reason mixer unless you want to do mixing in reason)
Send the channels from the devices straight into the hardware interface. (For reason drum kits, use the multi not the stereo mix)
On the back of your NN-XT sampler there are 16 channels. With the multi drum kits each channel has either R or L audio for the various drums and ambience tracks (ie: snare, kick, toms, cymbals R mix L mix, room, bleed tracks, etc.).
In pro tools all the tracks will play through their assigned aux input.
If you want your drums as audio tracks in pro tools (You don't need to do this, unless you want to process the audio destructively), you can bus the tracks separately or mixed to audio tracks and record them.

I hope that helps.

J.P.

RDK has redrum patches but is more based around the NNXT. In both cases flip the reason rack around and patch the individual outs of the redrum or nnxt to the audio interface on top of the rack

open a new protools session and create a Stereo aux track, Insert reason.
When reason opens create a NNXT and call up a RDK patch
1. Kick drum out of nnxt audio out 1 into reason audio interface 1 or "L" ( same thing )
2. snare out of nnxt audio out 2 into reason audio interface 2 or "R" (same thing),
3. btm snare (if using RDK) out of nnxt audio out 3 into reason audio interface 3 and so on.
Same principal with the redrum.

once you assign all of your drum set outs of the nnxt go back to protools and start creating new mono aux track for your individual drums ie. Right next to your reason stereo aux,
1. create a new mono aux track and in the insert and assign it to reason rewire "L" for your kick
2. next new mono aux reason rewire "R" for your snare
3. next new mono aux track reason rewire 3 for bottom snare etc.,etc.

hope this gets you going. Post if you have anymore specific questions

The only thing on my insert selector is a checked "no insert, "plugin", and "i/o" (which only has analog, ADAT, etc). I also have the stereo aux track track and 10 other aux input tracks. I have Reason on the stereo track. What am I doing wrong?

hello 100 grit. i noticed you posted on another thread .i'll try and help you in this one.
lets start from scratch.

1. open a new session in protools
2. create a mono aux track and instantiate reason name this aux track kick( we will come back to this aux later)
3. when reason opens,create a nnxt
4. in the nnxt load a RDK patch (multi out preset kit)
5. tab in reason so you can see the back of the rack and patch as follows
a. audio out of nnxt 1 to hardware interface 1
b. audio out of nnxt 2 to hardware interface 2
c. audio out of nnxt 3 to hardware interface 3
for now do the same to audio outs 4 thru 12 (as you did in steps a to c )
6. go back to protools and create 6 more mono aux tracks. now you have a total of 7 mono aux tracks
a. original mono aux track you created KICK
b. next momo aux SNARE
c. next mono aux BOTTOM SNARE
d. next momo aux LOW TOM
e. next mono aux MIDDLE TOM
f. next mono aux HIGH TOM
g. next mono aux HATS
next,Create 2 stereo aux track
h. first stereo aux will be named overheads
i. next stereo aux will be named room mics
once this is done you have to insert reason on all of these aux tracks. multi channel plug in's for you last 2 stereo aux tracks and route like this....
on your kick aux track click on the reason plug in , you will see the reason rewire window assign to mix "L"
snare drum aux assign to mix "R"
bottom snare aux assign to channel 3
low tom aux assign to channel 4
middle tom aux assign to channel 5
high tom aux assign to channel 6
hats aux assign to channel 7
now for the stereo aux tracks
overheads insert reason as a multi channel plug in and assign to channel 9-channel 10
room mics assign to channel 11- channel 12
almost done
create a mid track in protools and on the input assign to whatever applies in your set up and in the midi out put assign to nnxt
make sure your midi icon is not activated in the reason sequencer and in protools record arm your midi track. place all aux tracks faders at unity. you should now be ready to go
if you need actuall audio tracks of these drums buss all the aux tracks to audio tracks
good luck
